Horizon Oil’s Sinphuhorm Pad D Project Hits First Gas 50 Days Early
Horizon Oil’s Sinphuhorm Pad D facility in Thailand has achieved first gas well ahead of schedule, with strong initial production rates validating the project's potential to unlock underutilised reserves.
- First gas achieved 50 days ahead of schedule
- PH-14 well produced 25-30 MMSCFD during performance test
- Pad D targets under-drained northern Sinphuhorm field
- Facility supports multiple wells including historic PH-01ST1
- Horizon holds 7.5% interest in Sinphuhorm gas field
Early First Gas Signals Operational Success
Horizon Oil (ASX:HZN) has fast-tracked production at its Sinphuhorm Pad D Facility in Thailand, achieving first gas on 11 August 2026, approximately 50 days ahead of schedule. The accelerated timeline highlights effective project management and operational execution by the operator PTTEP and partners.
The facility completed a 72-hour performance test with the PH-14 well producing between 25 and 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, a strong initial showing that confirms the quality of the reservoir in this part of the field. Following testing, the facility has transitioned to normal operations, marking a significant milestone in Horizon’s Thailand gas portfolio.
Unlocking Underexploited Reserves in Sinphuhorm
Pad D is strategically located at the northernmost extent of the Sinphuhorm gas and condensate field, targeting areas historically less effectively drained. This positioning is expected to tap a significant portion of the field’s remaining recoverable gas resources, potentially extending the field’s productive life and enhancing overall output.
The facility will support production from multiple wells, including the recently recompleted PH-01ST1 well, the original Sinphuhorm discovery well drilled back in 1983, which is set to come online soon. This integration of new and legacy wells aims to maximise infrastructure utilisation and field productivity under existing long-term gas sales contracts with oil-linked pricing.
Strategic Importance Within Horizon’s Portfolio
Horizon holds an effective 7.5% interest in the Sinphuhorm field. The early delivery of Pad D infrastructure aligns with the company’s broader strategy to optimise its Thailand assets, which have been key contributors to recent production growth. The timing dovetails with Horizon’s record FY26 production and reserve upgrades, reflecting a pipeline of near-term development projects across its Asia-Pacific portfolio.
CEO Richard Beament praised the project team’s execution, noting the early first gas and strong well performance as validation of the development’s potential. He emphasised the contribution of Pad D to Thailand’s energy security and the efficient development of remaining gas resources in the northern Sinphuhorm field.
Bottom Line?
Pad D’s early start and robust initial output underscore Horizon’s ability to unlock value in mature fields, but ongoing production performance and integration of additional wells will determine the full impact on the company’s Thailand portfolio.
Questions in the middle?
- How will production from the recompleted PH-01ST1 well influence overall field output?
- What is the expected production plateau and decline profile for Pad D wells?
- How might Pad D’s contribution affect Horizon’s near-term revenue and cash flow under existing contracts?
