- Eldorado ranks second among 20+ NWQ copper prospects
- Significant copper geochemical anomalies over 5km structural corridor
- Big One Deposit holds 2.1Mt at 1.1% copper inferred resource
- Mining Lease Application for Big One progressing through approvals
- Reconnaissance and geophysics planned to refine Eldorado targets
Eldorado Emerges as a High-Priority Copper Target
New Frontier Minerals Limited (ASX:NFM) has identified the Eldorado Prospect within its NWQ Copper Project as a compelling exploration priority, second only to its flagship Big One Deposit. A recent comprehensive review of over 20 prospects across the 977km² tenement package ranked Eldorado highly based on a combination of prospectivity and certainty scores.
Eldorado’s allure lies in its extensive surface copper footprint. Historical soil and rock chip sampling reveal at least three zones of anomalous copper mineralisation stretching along a 5km north-northeast structural corridor. Rock chip assays have returned values up to 5,400ppm copper, while soil samples show elevated levels reaching 310ppm copper over broad areas. This geochemical signature is spatially aligned with the interpreted extension of the Dorman Fault Zone, a major structural feature also hosting copper sulphide deposits on adjacent tenements held by True North Copper.
Reconnaissance and Geophysical Surveys to Refine Drill Targets
Given the scale and consistency of the surface anomalies, New Frontier recommends advancing reconnaissance work at Eldorado. This will include detailed structural mapping and ground geophysical surveys aimed at refining and prioritising drill-ready targets. To date, Eldorado remains untested by drilling, with historical data providing a reconnaissance-level understanding but insufficient density for resource estimation.
This strategic focus on Eldorado complements the company’s broader NWQ portfolio, which also includes other high-to-moderate ranked prospects such as Valparaisa, Boomerang, and the historic Mt Storm Copper Mine. The latter has shown promising surface copper grades of up to 6.88% and remains a key area for detailed geological mapping and follow-up exploration.
Big One Deposit Advances Mining Lease Application
While Eldorado gains momentum as a priority exploration target, the Big One Deposit remains New Frontier’s most advanced asset. It hosts a JORC-compliant inferred Mineral Resource Estimate of 2.1 million tonnes at 1.1% copper, containing approximately 21,886 tonnes of copper metal. The deposit’s shear and dyke-related mineralisation offers a clear pathway to development.
New Frontier is actively progressing the Mining Lease Application for Big One through the Queensland Government’s regulatory approval process. This involves ongoing technical assessments and stakeholder consultations. The company plans to continue drill target preparation at Big One, including detailed mapping, sampling, and structural interpretation to refine priority areas ahead of future drilling campaigns.
Exploration Targets Indicate Significant Copper Potential
The NWQ Copper Project’s exploration target ranges from 12 to 58 million tonnes at 0.3% to 1.5% copper, representing between 50,000 and 473,000 tonnes of contained copper across 14 priority prospects. These figures remain conceptual, with insufficient exploration to define JORC-standard resources beyond Big One. Nonetheless, the substantial tonnage and grade ranges highlight the district-scale potential within New Frontier’s tenure.
The company’s Chairman, Gerrard Hall, emphasised the dual approach: advancing the mining lease at Big One while systematically unlocking the broader exploration potential, with Eldorado now a clear focus for follow-up fieldwork.
Bottom Line?
New Frontier’s twin-track strategy balances advancing Big One’s development with unlocking Eldorado’s exploration upside, setting the stage for a pivotal year ahead.
Questions in the middle?
- How will ground geophysics at Eldorado refine drill targets and impact exploration timelines?
- What are the key regulatory hurdles remaining for Big One’s Mining Lease Application?
