Streamplay’s Noodlecake Studios has deepened its collaboration with Butter By The Fish by signing a publishing deal for Monkey Brain, a physics-based roguelike, while also preparing Flick Shot Rogues for a mobile launch in September 2026.

  • Publishing deal signed for Monkey Brain with Butter By The Fish
  • Monkey Brain targets PC release in calendar 2026
  • Flick Shot Rogues opens mobile pre-orders ahead of September launch
  • New project complements Noodlecake’s premium PC and console titles
  • Recoupment-first commercial model reduces investment risk

New Physics-Based Roguelike Joins Noodlecake’s Portfolio

Streamplay Studio’s indie publishing arm, Noodlecake Studios, has expanded its partnership with German developer Butter By The Fish through a new publishing agreement for Monkey Brain. This physics-driven roguelike is currently in development for PC, with a targeted release before the end of 2026. Monkey Brain builds on the duo’s previous collaboration on Flick Shot Rogues, which debuted on Steam in September 2025.

The game’s design centres on launching “Thoughts” through a monkey’s brain, bouncing between brain cells to create combos and upgrades in compact, replayable sessions. This shorter-cycle project provides a nimble complement to Noodlecake’s larger-scale premium PC and console titles, such as Tiebreakers and Project DS, which were announced earlier this year.

Flick Shot Rogues Prepares for Mobile Expansion

Meanwhile, Flick Shot Rogues is poised to broaden its audience with a mobile launch scheduled for 16 September 2026 on iOS and Android. Pre-orders are now live on the Apple App Store and pre-registrations on Google Play. The mobile version adapts the original PC gameplay for touchscreen devices, retaining core mechanics and adopting a try-before-you-buy model that offers players an initial free segment before unlocking full access via a one-time purchase.

This mobile rollout aligns with Noodlecake’s broader cross-platform publishing strategy, extending the reach of its indie titles beyond PC and console ecosystems.

Commercial Model Balances Risk and Reward

The publishing agreement for Monkey Brain follows Noodlecake’s established framework, where development and publishing support costs are recouped before revenue sharing with the developer. This recoupment-first approach aims to mitigate investment risk while maintaining exposure to the title’s long-term commercial potential.

Streamplay notes that while the agreement could deliver material revenue, outcomes remain uncertain and will depend on development progress, release timing, platform performance, pricing, and user uptake. Any significant financial impact will be reflected in upcoming financial reports.

Ryan Holowaty, CEO of Noodlecake, expressed enthusiasm about renewing the partnership with Butter By The Fish, describing Monkey Brain as “weird, fun and immediately makes sense when you see it in action.”

Bottom Line?

Noodlecake’s new deal with Butter By The Fish and mobile expansion of Flick Shot Rogues signal a strategic push to diversify its indie portfolio with shorter-cycle projects, balancing risk with growth potential.

Questions in the middle?

  • How will Monkey Brain’s shorter development cycle impact Noodlecake’s overall publishing timeline and resources?
  • What user engagement levels will the mobile release of Flick Shot Rogues achieve compared to its PC predecessor?
  • Could Noodlecake’s recoupment-first model become a standard for managing investment risk across its expanding indie pipeline?
