Rincon Resources Commences Drilling to Expand Telfer South Gold-Copper Resources

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Rincon Resources has kicked off a 3,500-metre Reverse Circulation drilling campaign targeting extensions at its Telfer South Gold-Copper Project, aiming to grow resources around the Hasties Zone and Frenchman's prospect.

  • 3,500 metres of drilling planned across Hasties Zone and Frenchman's prospect
  • Focus on extending 1.1 km gold-copper corridor at Hasties
  • Historic and recent assays confirm significant mineralisation at Frenchman's
  • Drilling supported by Farm-In JV with Greatland Resources
  • Heritage Survey may unlock further drill targets later this year

Drilling Campaign Targets Resource Expansion at Hasties Zone

Rincon Resources (ASX:RCR) has launched Reverse Circulation drilling at its 100% owned Telfer South Gold-Copper Project, situated just 10 kilometres south of the operating Telfer Gold Mine in Western Australia's Eastern Pilbara. The initial program is set to deliver approximately 3,500 metres of drilling, split between 20 holes at the Hasties Zone and 8 holes at the nearby Frenchman's prospect.

The Hasties Zone, a 1.1-kilometre gold-copper corridor encompassing the Hasties Main and South-East deposits, remains the primary focus. Drilling here aims to extend mineralisation both northwest and southeast, building on last year’s encouraging results, historic rock chip samples, and geophysical data including a 2024 Induced Polarisation survey. The company has flagged the potential to add more holes to the program as new data emerges.

Frenchman's Prospect Offers Secondary Growth Opportunity

Approximately 700 metres north of Hasties, the Frenchman's prospect is receiving a targeted 1,500 metres of drilling across eight holes. Past drill results have already revealed significant copper-gold mineralisation, including intervals such as 5 metres at 1.74 g/t gold from 118 metres and historic intersections with copper grades up to 2.4%. These findings underscore Frenchman’s potential as a secondary growth driver within the project area.

Rincon’s Technical Director Michael Griffiths emphasised the company’s ambition to maintain a robust drilling schedule through the end of the year, not only to grow Hasties but also to evaluate other nearby targets like the high-grade Padion prospect, located about 4 kilometres northeast of Hasties. Padion has historic rock chips showing up to 10.9 g/t gold and 1.5% copper, indicating further upside potential.

Strategic Partnership and Heritage Survey Progress

This drilling initiative is underpinned by Rincon’s multi-stage Farm-In and Joint Venture agreement with Greatland Resources (ASX:GGP, AIM: GGP), which covers over 200 square kilometres of exploration tenements around Telfer South. The partnership aims to leverage Rincon’s ground position and Greatland’s technical expertise to methodically advance resource delineation.

A Heritage Survey is nearing completion to facilitate access to additional drilling locations within the Hasties Zone and surrounding areas. The results of this survey could enable an expanded drilling footprint later this year, potentially accelerating resource growth and discovery.

Resource Base and Exploration Outlook

The current Mineral Resource Estimate for the Hasties Zone, announced in February 2025, stands at 870,000 tonnes grading 0.96 g/t gold and 0.26% copper at a 0.3 g/t gold cutoff, containing approximately 26,800 ounces of gold and 2,286 tonnes of copper. Rincon anticipates that this ongoing drilling will contribute to an updated resource model once sufficient data is collected.

While forward-looking statements carry the usual exploration uncertainties, Rincon’s methodical approach and the promising historical and recent data position the Telfer South Project as a compelling asset in the gold-copper space. The company’s focus on systematic exploration and resource expansion aligns with broader market interest in high-grade, near-mine opportunities.

Bottom Line?

Rincon’s active drilling at Telfer South aims to translate promising historic data into a materially larger resource, but results and Heritage Survey outcomes will be critical to watch.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will drilling confirm extensions of high-grade mineralisation at Hasties and Frenchman’s?
  • How might the Heritage Survey findings influence the scale and timing of further drilling?
  • What impact could the Farm-In JV with Greatland Resources have on project advancement and capital deployment?
