Third High-Grade Domain Emerges at Arrakis
Yandal Resources (ASX:YRL) has bolstered its exploration credentials with the confirmation of a third high-grade gold domain within the Arrakis prospect, part of the Ironstone Well-Barwidgee (IWB) Gold Project in Western Australia. Recent infill reverse circulation (RC) and diamond tail drilling delivered significant assay results, including intercepts such as 17.5 metres at 2.3 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 127.5 metres, featuring higher-grade sub-intervals up to 4.8 g/t Au.
This new domain, interpreted to plunge steeply to the south over a strike length of 100 to 150 metres, lies approximately 50 metres down-dip from a previously reported standout intercept of 6 metres at 28.3 g/t Au. The discovery adds a fresh dimension to the 1.3-kilometre mineralised system at Arrakis, which now hosts at least three distinct high-grade zones.
Untested Depths Below Structural Disruption
Crucially, the down-plunge extension of this high-grade domain remains untested beneath the Yueh Shear Zone, a structurally complex mylonite shear zone known to disrupt and attenuate mineralisation. Yandal’s Managing Director, Chris Oorschot, highlighted the potential of this area as a compelling target for future drilling campaigns. Previous diamond drilling beneath the shear zone has already demonstrated significant mineralisation, indicating that further exploration here could unlock additional ounces.
The recent drilling program comprised 24 RC holes spaced at 100-metre intervals, supplemented by diamond tails where RC holes fell short of target depths. Results from eight new holes between the 6,350mN and 7,250mN drill lines have been received, confirming the presence of the third high-grade domain and revealing multiple mineralised zones within the 6,650mN section alone.
Geological Insights and Mineralisation Styles
Arrakis mineralisation is hosted in a deformed porphyritic dacite intrusive unit, with structural controls playing a significant role. Two mineralisation styles have been identified: a broad, lower-grade zone within silica-sericite altered dacite, and a higher-grade domain associated with intense brittle-ductile deformation and silica-pyrite-arsenopyrite alteration, often manifesting as clast-supported breccia.
Structural analysis reveals strong strike-slip sinistral shearing with mineral lineations plunging shallowly northwest, complemented by a shallower-dipping mylonite fabric that can disrupt mineralisation continuity. These complexities underline the importance of targeted drilling to delineate the geometry and extent of high-grade domains.
Broader Exploration Program and Upcoming Catalysts
Beyond Arrakis, Yandal Resources is actively advancing other targets within the IWB project. The Flushing Meadows deposit, with an existing resource of 268,000 ounces at 1.1 g/t Au, is undergoing further diamond drilling and air-core programs, with results expected through August and September. Meanwhile, exploration at the New England Granite target area, including the Salusa and Siona prospects, is progressing with drilling results anticipated shortly.
Yandal has temporarily paused drilling at Arrakis to await remaining assay results from two diamond tails, expected in early September. These forthcoming assays will be critical to refining the understanding of mineralisation continuity, particularly below the Yueh Shear Zone, and guiding subsequent drilling phases.
