Offtake Agreement Secured Through Q1 2027
Blue Star Helium Limited (ASX:BNL) has extended its helium purchase and sales agreement with its existing US counterparty until 31 March 2027. Originally set to expire at the end of August 2026, the renewed contract continues to cover all helium produced at the Pinon Canyon Plant, the processing hub for the Galactica Project in Colorado.
The pricing remains fixed for the extended term and aligns with prevailing US helium market conditions, though the identity of the purchaser and commercial pricing details remain confidential as per industry norms. Blue Star stresses that the counterparty’s identity is not expected to materially affect the company's valuation.
Operational Progress at Pinon Canyon
Blue Star’s Managing Director Trent Spry highlighted that the extension "secures continued volume delivery" and reflects a "meaningful validation of the plant output and project potential." He emphasised the company’s focus on consistent sales and cash flow, alongside progressing commercial solutions for the co-produced CO2, which remains an unresolved aspect of the project’s economics.
Long-Term Offtake Negotiations Underway
While the current agreement ensures short-term revenue continuity, Blue Star is actively negotiating wider and longer-term offtake arrangements. These discussions will be critical to underpinning future production scale-up and financial stability. The company has not disclosed timelines or terms for these longer agreements, leaving some uncertainty around the path beyond March 2027.
The Galactica Project, operated jointly with Helium One Global Ltd, continues to advance its helium production capabilities. Blue Star’s ability to maintain commercial partnerships with a reputable US buyer supports confidence in the project’s market relevance amid a tight helium supply environment.
Bottom Line?
The offtake extension locks in short-term revenue but leaves investors watching for the outcome of longer-term contracts and the commercial fate of co-produced CO2.
Questions in the middle?
- Will Blue Star secure a longer-term offtake agreement beyond Q1 2027?
- How quickly can production ramp toward the plant’s design capacity?
- What commercial solutions will emerge for the co-produced CO2 stream?
