KalGold’s Lighthorse Drilling Yields 19.7 g/t Au, Signalling Larger Gold System Potential

Record High-Grade Gold Intercept at Lighthorse
Kalgoorlie Gold Mining (ASX:KAL) has punched through a new high-water mark at its Lighthorse prospect within the Pinjin Gold Project, intercepting a standout 1m interval grading 19.70 g/t Au from 145m depth. This result, emerging from a recent 19-hole, 3,194m reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign, not only marks the highest-grade assay recorded at Lighthorse to date but also underscores the prospect’s potential to host a significant orogenic gold system beneath transported cover.
Alongside this peak intercept, multiple holes returned thick zones of vein and shear-hosted gold mineralisation, with several intercepts exceeding 5m in length at grades above 1 g/t Au. For example, hole KGRC26025 yielded 6m at 4.86 g/t Au from 54m, including 3m at 8.82 g/t Au, while KGRC26029 delivered 8m at 2.27 g/t Au from 94m, including 4m at 4.40 g/t Au. These broad mineralised envelopes suggest a robust mineral system that remains open for expansion.
Geological Features Point to Concealed Goldfield
KalGold’s geological team interprets the styles and relationships of mineralisation as consistent with Archaean orogenic gold deposits. The drilling identified both near-surface alluvial gold in transported material and a secondary supergene blanket in the northern Lighthorse area, lying beneath 25-40m of cover. This second supergene blanket, ranging up to 25m thick, is spatially distinct from the previously recognised blanket in the southern discovery zone, indicating complex weathering and remobilisation processes.
Primary gold mineralisation is closely associated with strong silica-sericite alteration, quartz-pyrite-chalcopyrite veining, and disseminated pyrite within intermediate volcanosedimentary rocks. The mineralisation appears to dip steeply east to vertical, paralleling contacts with ultramafic units. Clusters of gold intercepts spanning broad downhole widths; such as 54m at an average 1.17 g/t Au in KGRC26032; may represent the fringes of a larger, undiscovered orebody.
Magnetometric Conductivity Anomaly Guides Drilling
Drilling success at Lighthorse has been strongly correlated with a north-south trending magnetometric conductivity (MMC) ridge identified by KalGold’s 2025 Sub-Audio Magnetic survey. The MMC anomaly likely reflects a combination of sulphide mineralisation, sericitic alteration, and sheared ultramafic and intermediate rocks. All drill holes targeting this feature intersected gold mineralisation, reinforcing its value as a vector to mineralisation.
However, attempts to test an offset MMC ridge north of the main anomaly returned no significant results, suggesting further refinement of drill targeting is required. KalGold plans to conduct wider-spaced drilling along this offset ridge to better understand its potential.
Pending Aircore Results and Future Drilling Plans
Beyond Lighthorse, results are awaited from recent aircore drilling over the Laverton Tectonic Zone (LTZ) Flexure target, where geological complexity increases with the juxtaposition of different metamorphic sequences. This area lies near Ramelius Resources’ (ASX:RMS) Rebecca Gold Project, a development-stage mine approximately 20km south of Pinjin, highlighting the strategic importance of KalGold’s tenure.
KalGold is preparing further aircore and RC drilling programs to test new targets between Lighthorse and nearby prospects, including shallow targets on the offset MMC ridge. The company is also considering diamond drilling to resolve structural controls and test for mineralisation continuity at depth.
Pinjin Project’s Strategic Position in a Tier One Gold Belt
The Pinjin Gold Project sits within the prolific Laverton Tectonic Zone, a major crustal structure hosting some of Western Australia’s largest gold mines. KalGold’s recent resource estimate at Kirgella Gift and Providence defined an inferred resource of 76,400 ounces at 1.0 g/t Au, while the nearby Bulong Taurus Project holds a 138,000-ounce inferred resource at La Mascotte. The new Lighthorse results add another promising chapter to KalGold’s growing footprint in this Tier One gold province.
Managing Director Matt Painter highlighted that the thick mineralised intercepts from shallow depths and the geological features observed support the view of a substantial hydrothermal gold system at Lighthorse. He emphasised the company’s commitment to follow-up drilling to test the newly defined targets and further evaluate the system’s potential.
