Talisman Mining Raises A$4 Million to Accelerate NSW Gold Exploration

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Talisman Mining secures A$4 million through a strongly supported placement, including significant board participation, to fund exploration and new project opportunities in gold-rich NSW and Western Australia.

  • A$4 million placement at A$0.065 per share
  • Board commits A$870,000 including Chairman’s 19.6% stake
  • Funds to advance NSW gold exploration and new projects
  • Placement oversubscribed, scaled back to target raise
  • Tranche 2 and director participation subject to shareholder approval

Strong Capital Injection After a Decade

Talisman Mining (ASX:TLM) is tapping the market for the first time in over ten years, raising approximately A$4 million through a two-tranche placement priced at A$0.065 per share. This marks a strategic pivot to accelerate its exploration efforts, particularly in gold projects across New South Wales and Western Australia.

The placement price reflects a 7.1% discount to the last traded price and a slight discount to recent volume-weighted averages, a modest concession for fresh capital in a competitive sector. The raising attracted strong demand, with the bookbuild oversubscribed and subsequently scaled back to meet the target.

Board Signals Confidence with Substantial Participation

Notably, the company’s board is putting skin in the game, committing around A$870,000 to the placement. Chairman and largest shareholder Kerry Harmanis alone intends to subscribe for roughly 19.6% of the raise, about A$780,000, underscoring management’s confidence in Talisman’s strategic direction. This director participation awaits shareholder approval at an upcoming General Meeting expected in mid-October.

Funding Focused on Exploration and Growth

The freshly raised funds will be deployed primarily to advance drilling and exploration across Talisman’s existing NSW portfolio, which includes promising gold prospects such as Sheepyard Creek and East Peak Hill. These sites have recently revealed encouraging shallow gold mineralisation over significant strike lengths, positioning the company to build on early successes with more aggressive fieldwork as ground conditions improve.

In addition to NSW, the company is evaluating new projects and pursuing broader business development opportunities, with a particular eye on gold assets in Western Australia. General working capital and the costs associated with the placement will also be covered.

Capital Structure and Upcoming Approvals

Prior to the placement, Talisman had approximately 188 million fully paid shares on issue and a market capitalisation near A$12.2 million. The first tranche of 47 million shares will be issued immediately, while the second tranche of about 14.5 million shares and the director participation are contingent on shareholder approval at the mid-October General Meeting.

Euroz Hartleys Limited served as sole lead manager and bookrunner, delivering a well-executed raise that attracted both institutional and sophisticated investors.

Leadership Optimistic on Growth Prospects

Chairman Kerry Harmanis highlighted the company’s prudent financial management over the past decade, enabled by royalty income from the Wonmunna Iron Ore Project, which has allowed Talisman to nurture a portfolio of drill-ready targets. While operations at Wonmunna have wound down, the royalty interest remains a valuable asset should production resume.

Managing Director Todd Ross expressed enthusiasm about recommencing drilling at key NSW prospects, noting that improved weather conditions are finally allowing mobilisation after recent delays. The capital raise, he said, provides the flexibility to advance exploration and pursue new opportunities aggressively.

Bottom Line?

Talisman’s successful raise and strong board backing set the stage for a more active exploration phase, but shareholder approval for the final tranche and director participation remains a key upcoming hurdle.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will shareholder approval for the second tranche and director participation be secured without issue?
  • How quickly will Talisman translate fresh capital into drilling results at Sheepyard Creek and East Peak Hill?
  • Can new project evaluations in Western Australia deliver meaningful growth alongside NSW assets?
