Taruga Minerals (ASX:TAR) has delivered a fresh surge of high-grade gold and silver results from its East Normanby Gold Project on Papua New Guinea’s Normanby Island, with rock chip sampling at the Wenasia and Sipupu prospects returning standout assays including 33.1 g/t gold and 223 g/t silver at Wenasia, and 25.2 g/t gold with a remarkable 867 g/t silver at Sipupu. These are the highest grades recorded by Taruga to date, underscoring the scale and quality of the under-explored Weioko Gold District.

The 8km mineralised corridor stretching from Wenasia in the south to Sipupu in the northeast now boasts multiple outcropping quartz vein systems, validating Taruga’s exploration model that leverages regional float and drainage sampling to pinpoint mineralisation sources. Of the 44 rock chip samples reported, 14 exceeded 0.5 g/t gold and six surpassed 5 g/t gold, consistent with a large, structurally controlled low-sulphidation epithermal system.

New Vein Systems at Wenasia and Sipupu Confirm Exploration Model

At Wenasia, located 2km south of the Weioko Gold Deposit, Taruga’s reconnaissance mapping uncovered a 40m-long exposed quartz vein system yielding assays up to 33.1 g/t gold and 349 g/t silver. The vein textures and associated arsenopyrite and pyrite mineralisation align with epithermal styles, suggesting a high-level hydrothermal system. Meanwhile, follow-up sampling at Sipupu, north of Weioko, traced the source of previously identified float gold-silver anomalies to outcropping brecciated quartz veins, returning assays up to 25.2 g/t gold and 867 g/t silver.

These findings expand the known extent of high-grade mineralisation well beyond the historic Weioko Gold Deposit, which itself has seen previous rock chip assays up to 99.5 g/t gold. The presence of elevated arsenic and antimony alongside gold and silver further supports the epithermal model guiding Taruga’s exploration strategy.

Imminent Maiden Drilling and Growing Target Pipeline

With all three East Normanby exploration licences now granted, covering 488 square kilometres, Taruga is poised to escalate its field activities. The company has secured a drilling contractor and plans to commence its maiden diamond drilling program at the Weioko Gold Deposit by the end of September. This program will target both the deposit and its extensions, with assay results to be released as they become available.

Alongside drilling, Taruga will advance trenching and infill rock chip sampling at Wenasia and Sipupu to better define strike extents and refine drill targets. The company also intends to integrate reprocessed historic geophysical data to enhance geological modelling and target ranking across the district.
