Olympio Metals has launched its maiden drilling campaign at the Jacknife Project in Idaho, targeting historically rich silver mineralisation within patented claims, while advancing surface sampling at its Raven Project in Montana.
- Maiden drilling imminent at Jacknife targeting Conjecture Mine
- Exploration accelerated by 335 acres of patented claims
- Surface rock chip and soil sampling underway at both projects
- Projects host polymetallic silver-antimony mineralisation in Silver Valley
- Partnership with Scout Discoveries enables rapid field operations
Drilling Set to Restart at Historic Conjecture Mine
Olympio Metals Limited (ASX:OLY) has kicked off field exploration at its US silver assets, with drill pad preparations underway at the Jacknife Project in Idaho and a diamond rig expected to mobilise imminently. The maiden drill program will focus on the Conjecture Mine and the associated Conjecture Shear Zone, targeting high-grade silver mineralisation within 335 acres of patented mining claims. This land tenure has allowed Olympio to accelerate drilling without the delays typical of unpatented leases.
Surface Sampling Campaigns to Guide Broader Exploration
Alongside drilling, Olympio is conducting preliminary rock chip and trial soil sampling at both Jacknife and its Raven Project in Montana. These campaigns aim to detect geochemical surface expressions of key shear zones and mineralised structures. Notably, the sampling will assay a broad suite of elements, moving beyond the selective base metals historically reported. This approach is designed to refine exploration methods and identify fertile zones across the projects.
Silver Valley Projects with Polymetallic Potential
The Jacknife Project includes six historically significant mines with over 8km of underground workings, including a vertical shaft exceeding 600 metres at the Conjecture Mine. The mineralisation is polymetallic, dominated by silver but also containing galena, sphalerite, gold, chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite, and minor stibnite. The veins occur as open void fills rather than replacement styles, an aspect that has yet to be fully assessed in terms of silver-equivalent potential.
Meanwhile, the Raven Project, located about 100km southeast of Jacknife, hosts the historic Raven and Silver King Mines within the Thompson River mining district. The project’s geology features prospective formations known to host major silver deposits in the Silver Valley region, which has historically produced over 1.2 billion ounces of silver. Olympio plans to use surface geochemical data to design a maiden drill program at Raven.
Strategic US Critical Minerals Alignment and Local Partnership
Both silver and antimony are listed on the 2025 US Geological Survey’s Critical Minerals List, aligning these projects with the US government’s US$12 billion strategic mineral stockpile initiative. Olympio’s Managing Director Sean Delaney highlighted the advantage of partnering with Scout Discoveries Corp, a private US exploration company, to expedite on-the-ground activities and navigate local operational requirements.
Delaney emphasised the excitement around the maiden exploration programs, which aim not only to test historical targets but also to establish effective surface exploration strategies across the district-scale claims. The company’s rapid advancement to drilling follows its acquisition of an 80% stake in Jacknife earlier this year, supported by Scout Discoveries as technical and operational partner.
Historical Estimates Guide but Require Validation
Olympio has acknowledged that historical resource estimates at Conjecture are foreign and non-JORC compliant, derived from work dating back to the 1970s and early 1980s. While these estimates provide a valuable guide, the company plans to re-drill and conduct modern assay programs to establish a JORC-compliant Mineral Resource. This step is critical to validate the historical data and underpin future development decisions.
The company’s approach reflects a cautious but opportunistic strategy to unlock value from underexplored US silver districts with significant historical production. The coming months will be pivotal as assay results from drilling and surface sampling begin to flow, potentially reshaping the resource outlook for these projects.
Bottom Line?
Olympio’s imminent drilling and sampling in a premier US silver district will be a key test of historical data and could unlock critical mineral resources aligned with US strategic priorities.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the maiden drill results confirm the historical high-grade silver mineralisation at Conjecture Mine?
- How effectively will surface geochemistry identify extensions of known shear zones and new targets?
- What impact might evolving US critical minerals policies have on project economics and funding?
