Nine New Anomalies Expand Oval Project Potential

Azzuro Resources (ASX:AZ9) has revealed a significant leap forward in its exploration of the Oval Cu-Ni-PGE project in southwestern Mongolia. A first-stage 3D induced polarisation (3D IP) survey has pinpointed nine new resistivity anomalies around the Oval intrusive body, with five ranked as priority-1 drill-ready targets. These anomalies predominantly lie in areas and depths previously untested by drilling, opening fresh avenues for discovery in the company’s flagship tenement.

The top-priority target, Ta-01, notably extends beneath and beyond previous drillhole OVD0522, suggesting the mineralised system plunges deeper than earlier models indicated. Other priority-1 targets (Ta-02 to Ta-05) are situated at shallow depths and align parallel to the Oval intrusion, making them accessible for imminent drilling. Ta-05 also coincides spatially with a previously defined south FLEM electromagnetic plate, reinforcing its prospectivity.

Advanced Geophysical Tools Bolster Exploration Arsenal

This multi-dataset approach is expected to enhance the precision of exploration efforts, with the ultimate goal of advancing toward a JORC 2012 Resource estimate for the copper portfolio in southwestern Mongolia.

Copper Ridge Drilling Refines Geological Understanding

At the Copper Ridge Cu-Au prospect, diamond drillhole CRS05 targeted a steep chargeability anomaly identified by the 3D IP survey. The hole intersected metasedimentary and rhyolite sequences, returning a narrow zone of low-grade gold mineralisation (4.0 metres at 0.30 g/t Au) near the bottom but no significant copper. This outcome suggests that the mineralisation previously encountered at Copper Ridge may be structurally controlled and associated with fault zones rather than the intrusive system itself.

The company will integrate the CRS05 geological data with existing geophysical and drilling datasets to refine future targeting strategies at Copper Ridge.

Untested Electromagnetic Plates Offer Additional Targets

Beyond the new 3D IP anomalies, Azzuro has re-modelled 17 conductive plates from earlier fixed-loop electromagnetic (FLEM) surveys across the Oval area. Sixteen of these remain untested and are prioritised for follow-up drilling. These plates, some with high conductivity thickness, could represent additional mineralised bodies or feeder zones, further expanding the exploration footprint.

The company’s comprehensive exploration strategy at Oval involves integrating 3D IP, magnetic-constrained modelling, FLEM/modified late-time electromagnetic data, and drilling results to systematically refine drill targets and unlock the tenement’s full potential.

Looking Ahead to a Busy Exploration Season

Managing Director Gan-Ochir Zunduisuren emphasised the significance of the new geophysical data, describing it as a “real change in understanding” of the Oval system. With the new DHEM system on site and drilling planned at both Oval and Red Hill, Azzuro is gearing up for a busy fall exploration season. The company is positioning itself to move from exploration targets to a potential JORC 2012 Resource and an initial commercial study, marking a key milestone for shareholders.
