Caspin Uncovers High-Grade Tungsten Potential at Bygoo

The results broaden the Bygoo Project beyond its established tin focus, although the strongest evidence remains untested historical data.

Historical Drilling Reveals Tungsten Grades at Taylors Hill

Caspin Resources Limited (ASX:CPN) has uncovered what it describes as the first high-grade tungsten opportunity recognised at its Bygoo Tin Project in New South Wales, with old drilling at Taylors Hill returning a standout 3.0-metre interval at 3.69% WO3 and 0.39% tin from 44.2 metres.

The broader historical intersection measured 10.6 metres at 1.07% WO3 and 0.12% tin. A second hole returned 12.2 metres at 0.11% WO3 and 0.68% tin, including 1.5 metres at 0.20% WO3 and 3.20% tin. Those results came from three holes drilled by Magnum Explorations in the early 1970s beneath historical workings and have never been followed up with further drilling.

Modern soil sampling has added a more recent signal: a tungsten anomaly extending for more than 800 metres, with a peak value of 34.6 parts per million against a reported background of 3 parts per million. The historical holes sit within that anomaly, which follows northeast-southwest trending faults near the Ardlethan granite contact.

Fordes Gossan Adds a Second Tin-Tungsten Target

At the nearby Fordes Gossan prospect, Caspin’s rock-chip sampling has also returned tin and tungsten mineralisation at surface. One sample graded 0.33% WO3 and 1.7662% tin, alongside antimony, bismuth and copper, while another returned 0.12% WO3 and 2.0139% tin.

Caspin says the gossanous, brecciated sediments may be consistent with the potential for breccia-pipe-hosted mineralisation, although that interpretation remains an exploration hypothesis rather than a defined resource. The company has also noted that tungsten-bearing zones occurred in lodes at the historic Ardlethan Tin Mine, which sits adjacent to the broader Bygoo ground but is excised from Caspin’s exploration licence.

Follow-Up Work Must Convert Old Results Into Modern Evidence

The discovery expands Caspin’s exploration lens from tin into tungsten, a metal the company says has risen sharply in value following Chinese mining and export restrictions. Caspin’s managing director Greg Miles said tungsten could provide a complementary opportunity because tin and tungsten may occur within related mineral systems, and because potential wolframite recovery could use a flowsheet similar to the one proposed for the Kelpie deposit.

There are important qualifications. The Taylors Hill intersections are historical, with incomplete records for sampling, assay methods and recovery. Caspin also says the locations of the old drill collars carry uncertainty, potentially as much as 200 metres, and the true widths of the mineralisation are unknown. Recent rock-chip assays from Taylors Hill and Ardlethan South are still pending.

The immediate program is expected to include more soil and rock-chip sampling, mapping and potentially geophysics before drill targets are finalised. That work will run alongside resource-extension drilling at Kelpie, where the company says a resource update remains on schedule for late September. The key test for the new tungsten story will be whether modern drilling can reproduce the historical grades at accurately located holes and establish continuity beyond isolated intervals.
