Talonx Resources has identified copper and broader base-metal exploration potential across its 1,000km² Kihabe Project in Botswana, supported by historical copper intersections and established zinc-lead-silver resources. The immediate task is to turn an exploration thesis into drill-ready targets, with no new drilling or copper resource reported in the announcement.

Historical Copper Results Recast Kihabe’s Exploration Case
Talonx Resources Limited (ASX:TXR) is widening the exploration lens at its Kihabe Project in north-west Botswana, where historical drilling has already intersected copper across an approximately 800-metre strike extent. The strongest highlighted result was 7 metres at 1.04% copper from 71 metres in hole KIH011, alongside 6.5 metres at 0.67% copper from 91 metres in KDD140 and 18 metres at 0.43% copper from 122 metres in KRC052.
Those numbers are historical, not fresh assay results, and they do not establish a continuous copper body. All reported intervals are downhole lengths, with true widths unknown. Still, they provide a tangible starting point for Talonx’s argument that Kihabe may host more than the zinc-lead-silver mineralisation around which earlier exploration was concentrated.
A Large Tenement With Multiple Copper Models
The project covers roughly 1,000 square kilometres within Botswana’s underexplored northeastern extension of the Damara Orogenic Belt. Talonx is drawing on regional examples in neighbouring Namibia and the wider belt, including sediment-hosted copper at Tschudi, carbonate-related mineralisation at Kombat and Tsumeb, and copper-silver mineralisation at Midas Minerals’ T13 project.
At Kihabe, the company is pursuing two broad possibilities: copper hosted along favourable sedimentary horizons, and structurally controlled or carbonate-replacement mineralisation within dolomite, fractures and breccias. The regional analogues inform those exploration models, but they do not demonstrate equivalent grades, dimensions or economic potential at Kihabe. Much of the prospective succession remains concealed beneath Kalahari cover, while an interpreted zinc-lead geochemical corridor extends for about 20 kilometres along the Kihabala Trend.
Existing Zinc-Lead-Silver Resource Provides Geological Support
The copper thesis sits alongside a substantial existing base-metal inventory. Kihabe and Nxuu carry combined Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources of 27.0 million tonnes, containing approximately 385,000 tonnes of zinc, 186,000 tonnes of lead and 6.44 million ounces of silver, reported at a 0.5% zinc-equivalent cut-off.
That resource demonstrates mineralising activity in the project’s sedimentary succession, but copper was not included in the 2022 estimates. The existing resource therefore offers geological context rather than a copper valuation uplift: further drilling, assay verification, metallurgical work and geological interpretation would be required before copper could be considered in any resource update.
Sampling Program Comes Before Follow-Up Drilling
Talonx has commenced a staged program of rock-chip and conventional soil sampling, geological mapping and targeted geophysics. The work is intended to identify copper and associated base-metal anomalism beyond the known deposits, refine the structural and stratigraphic interpretation, and rank targets for potential follow-up drilling.
The qualification is important. The announcement reports no new drilling, and the company notes that historical assay metadata, sampling records and some location data are incomplete. Historical pXRF soil data is not considered reliable for regional copper targeting, meaning the new laboratory-based sampling program will need to establish whether the broader copper opportunity survives contact with better-quality data. The next meaningful test will be whether that work produces defined targets, followed by drilling that can demonstrate continuity, true widths and economically relevant mineralisation.

Kihabe has a credible copper exploration starting point, but the investment case now depends on whether new sampling and geophysics can convert historical intersections into drill-ready, continuous targets.
