Bulk Sample Targets Orleans Remnant Material
Nelson Resources Limited (ASX:NES) wants to move its Orleans Mine evaluation beyond small laboratory composites, lodging a Notice of Intent with the US Bureau of Land Management for a bulk sample of up to 1,000 short tons, or about 910 tonnes, at the Gold Point Project in Nevada.
The proposed material would come from remnant mineralisation and stockpiles associated with the historic workings, principally around the 300-foot and 400-foot levels. Historical mining removed higher-grade portions of the veins, leaving mineralised material within and beside partly collapsed stopes. The company says the exercise is designed to generate metallurgical data, not to begin mining or commercial production.
Testing Will Separate Grade Profiles
Nelson plans, where practical, to stockpile material by grade profile and process higher-grade and lower-grade lots separately. That distinction matters: a single blended recovery figure could obscure how the remnant material behaves across the range of grades the company expects to encounter.
The objectives are to assess process response, quantify gold and silver recoveries under representative conditions and help define an eventual processing flowsheet. Historical samples reproduced in the announcement ranged from 1.46 grams per tonne to 7.27g/t gold, with silver grades reaching as high as 215g/t, although those figures are previously reported results rather than new exploration data.
Laboratory Work Provides the First Test
The bulk program is intended to complement laboratory work already underway at Kappes, Cassiday & Associates in Reno. Four approximately 20-kilogram Orleans composites are being assessed through fire assay, bottle-roll and column-leach testing, with agglomeration and gravity-recoverable gold work available where required.
Nelson describes the proposed bulk sample as a scale-up of the remnant-material component of that program. It is intended to test whether laboratory results hold at commercial-mill scale and to produce a more representative grade-recovery profile. The company has not established that results from Orleans will apply to other Gold Point veins, including Great Western and Grand Central.
Approval and Milling Remain Outstanding
The 1,000-short-ton limit sits at the BLM's Notice-level threshold. Nelson is awaiting approval and must also put the required financial guarantee in place before extraction can start. Any larger sample would require a Plan of Operations, which the company says it is preparing.
No third-party mill has been selected or contracted. Nelson is evaluating facilities in Nevada and nearby states, and processing cannot begin until a facility and campaign window are confirmed. Once extraction and processing are both underway, the company currently estimates that handling the final lot could take about four months, although that timing remains indicative.
The Key Test Is Recovery, Not Tonnage
For shareholders, the immediate significance is less the proposed 910-tonne volume than the quality of the information it could produce. Separate lots may show whether remnant material has consistent processing characteristics or whether recoveries vary materially with grade and mineralogy. Any metal recovered through a third-party mill would be incidental to the testing, with its treatment to be decided after a facility is chosen.
The next hard milestones are regulatory approval, bonding, contractor mobilisation, the KCA laboratory results and a confirmed mill slot. Until those pieces are in place, the announcement marks a technical and permitting step toward evaluation rather than evidence of an economic development outcome.

The proposed bulk sample could provide a more credible recovery benchmark for Orleans, but its value depends on approval, lot control and a mill campaign that has not yet been secured.
