500 tons of equipment reaches Port MacKenzie
Nova Minerals Corp (ASX:NVA) has taken a substantial physical step towards its planned Alaska antimony operation, with approximately 500 tons of processing and refining equipment arriving at Port MacKenzie. The shipment included more than 40 containers and multiple oversized loads, moving the project from procurement and logistics into the construction phase.
The barge left Seattle on 26 August and reached Cook Inlet on 6 September. Nova said the delivery arrived ahead of schedule after six months of procurement, consolidation and planning, although the announcement did not quantify the capital savings or provide a detailed construction timetable.
Government-backed facility targets 2027 production
The equipment delivery is tied to a US$43.4 million award from the US Department of War under Title III of the Defense Production Act. Nova is positioning the funding and facility as the foundation of an integrated domestic antimony supply chain, with antimony classified in the announcement as a priority mineral for defence, energy storage and advanced electronics.
The shipment covers the core stages of the planned plant, including crushing, ore sorting, milling, flotation and refining. The modular facility is initially designed to produce antimony trisulfide from stibnite-bearing material, with potential flexibility to add antimony metal and antimony trioxide production as operations develop.
Port infrastructure becomes part of the project case
Port MacKenzie offers a year-round deepwater port, road and highway access, the West Susitna Access Road and a rail spur intended to connect with the Alaska Railroad mainline. Nova says those links are expected to support the movement of materials and products as the project progresses, while the processing site itself has been prepared for construction.
Chief executive Christopher Gerteisen said sourcing modern equipment from a recently decommissioned North American site, rather than starting from scratch, had accelerated the path to construction and delivered “meaningful capital cost savings”. Those claims remain qualitative in the announcement. The next test is whether the equipment arrival converts into construction progress, approvals and commissioning on the company's targeted path to 2027 production.
