WhiteRock reveals a much larger Spodumene Mountain system

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

WhiteRock Lithium says all seven holes drilled in the first phase of its 2026 campaign intersected spodumene-bearing pegmatite, extending the Spodumene Mountain strike length by 115% to 1.4km. The result is encouraging, but laboratory assays are still needed to establish lithium grades and true widths.

  • Seven of seven 2026 holes intersected spodumene-bearing pegmatite
  • Confirmed strike length expanded from 650m to 1.4km
  • Longest reported pegmatite intersection measured 77.4m downhole
  • Three rigs are continuing a planned 50-60-hole campaign
  • Assays are expected within approximately three weeks

WhiteRock Lithium Corp. (ASX:WLC) has more than doubled the confirmed strike length of its Spodumene Mountain lithium system in Québec, with the first seven holes of its 2026 drilling campaign all intersecting spodumene-bearing pegmatite. The drilled and outcropping trend now extends approximately 1.4km, up from 650m after the company’s 2024 campaign.

The latest step-out drilling added 400m to the northeast and 350m to the southwest beyond the outermost 2024 holes. Reported pegmatite intervals reached 77.4m in downhole core length, while coarse spodumene was observed in every hole. WhiteRock said the lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatite system remains open along strike and at depth.

Seven holes extend both ends of the pegmatite trend

Four holes tested the northeastern extension and three tested the southwest. The company’s geological interpretation suggests the pegmatite may pinch near surface and swell locally at depth in the northeast, while the southwestern holes show apparent internal fractionation between spodumene-bearing and feldspar-dominant zones.

Among the reported intersections, hole BL26-035 returned a 77.4m pegmatite interval from 50.1m to 127.5m, with visual spodumene estimates ranging from 0.1% to 25%. Hole BL26-031 included a 7.5m interval with a visual estimate of 35% to 50% spodumene, while BL26-034 recorded an 11.4m interval estimated at 30% to 40%. These are geological observations rather than grade results, and the company cautioned that visual abundance cannot substitute for laboratory analysis.

Assays remain the next test

The encouraging core photographs and visual logging do not yet establish the lithium content of the new extensions. WhiteRock expects assays for the seven holes within approximately three weeks of the announcement, with analytical results required to confirm lithium grades and mineralogical composition.

Reported widths are also downhole lengths, not confirmed true widths. The company currently estimates true widths may be more than 90% of drill intersections in the broader geological interpretation, but says individual true widths cannot yet be calculated because the system’s geometry is still being delineated and drill spacing remains relatively wide.

Drilling moves towards a resource estimate

Three diamond rigs are continuing the programme, which has completed seven of a planned 50 to 60 holes for 1,903m. After testing the outer limits of the strike, the campaign is now moving towards a 100m by 100m grid across the Spodumene Mountain prospect. WhiteRock’s stated objective is to generate sufficient data for a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate in the first half of 2027.

That timeline gives the pending assays particular importance. The new drilling has materially expanded the system’s footprint, but the next disclosure will need to show whether the visual pegmatite continuity translates into consistent lithium grades across the extended corridor.

Bottom Line?

The footprint has expanded sharply, but the investment case still turns on pending assays, confirmed true widths and whether systematic drilling can support a maiden resource in H1 2027.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will laboratory assays confirm economically meaningful lithium grades across the 1.4km strike length?
  • How will true widths and the apparent near-surface pinching affect the eventual resource model?
  • Can the remaining drilling establish sufficient continuity for a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate in H1 2027?
