Dokwe's Broad Gold Zones Give Ariana's DFS More to Work With

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Ariana Resources has re-released its Dokwe drilling update after adding JORC disclosures, leaving the underlying results unchanged. The announcement reports broad gold intercepts, eight tonnes of samples sent to China for feasibility-level metallurgical testing and further work aimed at advancing the Zimbabwe project’s DFS.

  • 98m at 2.85g/t gold at Dokwe Central
  • 24m at 4.71g/t gold at Dokwe North
  • Eight tonnes of metallurgical samples sent to China
  • 1.598Moz Mineral Resource reported for Dokwe
  • DFS technical work targeted for Q1 2027

Dokwe Results Reissued With Additional JORC Detail

Ariana Resources plc (ASX:AA2, AIM:AAU) has re-released its Dokwe drilling announcement after adding information on sampling techniques and data aggregation methods required under Listing Rule 5.7.1. The company said the update adds disclosure to the 10 September release; it does not identify a change to the reported drilling results.

Those results remain substantial. At Dokwe North, hole DPD141 returned 24 metres at 4.71 grams per tonne gold from 172 metres, including two metres at 46.95g/t, while DPD142 delivered 68 metres at 2.03g/t from 160 metres. At Dokwe Central, DPD150 produced 98 metres at 2.85g/t from 91 metres, including a one-metre interval grading 93.72g/t.

Eight Tonnes Move Into Metallurgical Testwork

The 2026 metallurgical programme covered 2,822 metres across 15 diamond holes. Ariana says the drilling confirmed extensive moderate- to high-grade mineralisation in the core areas of Dokwe North and Central, while eight tonnes of samples have been shipped to Yantai, China, for feasibility-level metallurgical testwork by Hongkong Xinhai Mining Services.

The testwork is now a distinct technical milestone rather than a result in itself: no recovery or processing outcomes have yet been reported. The company plans to integrate the data into its Definitive Feasibility Study, with the remaining DFS technical work scheduled for completion during the first quarter of calendar 2027.

Exploration Extends Dokwe North, With Sterilisation Work Ahead

Four follow-up exploration holes totalling 1,005 metres were drilled on the eastern flank of Dokwe North. DPD154 returned several mineralised intervals, including eight metres at 1.45g/t from 96 metres and 10 metres at 1.02g/t from 282 metres. DPD155 added a sharper two-metre interval at 17.31g/t from 174 metres.

The results support Ariana’s stated plan for additional drilling near the current resource, including work intended to help convert resources into reserves and test areas proposed for mining infrastructure. However, two holes in the area between Dokwe North and a proposed waste-rock dump returned no significant gold despite strong pyrite mineralisation, information the company says will guide sterilisation drilling planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Dokwe’s reported Mineral Resource stands at 1.598 million ounces, comprising 21.055 million tonnes of Measured material at 0.92g/t, 29.331 million tonnes of Indicated material at 0.75g/t and 12.080 million tonnes of Inferred material at 0.68g/t. The headline intercepts are downhole lengths, not calculated true widths, so their eventual mine-planning significance will depend on geometry, metallurgy and the conversion of mineralisation into economically mineable reserves.

Bottom Line?

The drilling has strengthened the technical case Ariana is taking into testwork, but the next valuation-sensitive evidence will come from metallurgical recoveries, sterilisation results and the DFS rather than from headline grades alone.

Questions in the middle?

  • What recoveries and processing characteristics will the eight-tonne metallurgical sample produce?
  • Can the northeastern extensions convert into additional reserves without compromising the planned mine layout?
  • Will the Q4 sterilisation drilling and Q1 2027 DFS work resolve the remaining infrastructure and development constraints?
