Carters Road Adds Copper Ground Near Nundle
Cosmo Metals Ltd (ASX:CMO) has added a new copper exploration asset to its New South Wales portfolio, securing Exploration Licence EL9946 at Carters Road about 40km southeast of its Nundle Project. The licence follows field reconnaissance that identified copper-bearing outcrop beside the regional Peel-Manning Fault complex.
The headline assay is a 4.69% copper result accompanied by 5.78g/t silver. It came from one selective grab sample collected from outcrop or subcrop, rather than drilling or systematic channel sampling. That makes the result an encouraging geological signal, not evidence of a defined mineralised body.
High-Grade Sample Comes With Clear Limitations
Cosmo’s technical team interprets the exposed mineralisation as being associated with a Permian-aged Tonalite intrusion within Tamworth Group volcanics. The prospective Tonalite extends for more than 1km across the project area and lies adjacent to a serpentinite sequence associated with the fault system.
The company is targeting the possibility of large-scale intrusion-related copper-gold mineralisation, drawing a geological comparison with the historic Mt Morgan mine in Queensland. That comparison is a targeting concept only: Mt Morgan is not owned by Cosmo, and the filing makes no claim that Carters Road contains a deposit of comparable size or grade.
Largely Unexplored Licence Moves to Desktop Work
Carters Road has no reported historic workings, drilling or systematic modern exploration. Cosmo’s immediate program is therefore deliberately preliminary: it plans to compile historical exploration records, geological information and geophysical data before undertaking approvals, ground truthing, mapping and additional rock-chip sampling.
The planned fieldwork is intended to test mineralisation trends along the Peel-Manning Fault and around the Tonalite contact. The filing also notes that part of the Barrington State Forest overlays the southern edge of EL9946, although Cosmo reports no known impediment to obtaining a licence to operate.

The announcement describes Cosmo as having secured the project, while its JORC disclosure states that EL9946 is 100% held by Galaxias Metals Pty Ltd. The filing does not explain the corporate relationship between Galaxias Metals and Cosmo, a point that will matter as the company advances exploration and investors assess the asset’s legal ownership and rights.
For now, Carters Road is best understood as a low-cost portfolio addition supported by one high-grade surface indication. The next meaningful evidence will come from repeat and systematic sampling, geological mapping and any work capable of showing whether the isolated result reflects a broader mineralised system.
