NSM Highlights Darlington as Key Test of Stawell Gold Model

North Stawell Minerals has used a conference presentation to position Darlington and Darlington West as its leading tests of the Stawell gold model, while outlining a broader Victorian exploration pipeline. The company stresses that the drilling results and resource figures presented have been previously reported, making follow-up work rather than a fresh discovery the key investor question.

North Stawell Minerals Limited (ASX:NSM) is betting that the next important discovery north of Victoria’s Stawell Gold Mine may be hidden beneath the same geological plumbing system that produced more than five million ounces at Stawell. Its latest presentation puts Darlington and Darlington West at the front of that search, but it also makes an important qualification: all exploration results cited have been previously reported and the presentation does not materially revise earlier disclosures.

Darlington Leads the High-Grade Search

The attraction is clear. At Darlington, hole NSD057 returned 2.3 metres at 29.2 grams per tonne gold from 108.2 metres, including 0.8 metres at 82.3 g/t. NSM says the mineralisation resembles the historic Mariners-style system, characterised by narrow, high-grade quartz-carbonate veins and visible gold above or around basalt bodies.

Darlington West offers a different but related test. The maiden hole NSD058 intersected three intervals above 1 g/t gold, including 0.5 metres at 6.01 g/t from 283.35 metres on the lower contact of a foliated basalt. The company describes the interval as narrow, while pointing to carbonate-silica alteration, brecciation and disseminated acicular arsenopyrite as geological features consistent with the possibility of a Stawell-type system. The mineralised trend remains an exploration target, not a defined economic deposit.

That geological thesis sits alongside the company’s recent Darlington extensions, which are also referenced in the presentation’s 2026 work program. NSM says follow-up priorities include diamond drilling, air-core drilling, IP geophysics and numerical modelling, including tests of a strong conductor at Darlington West and the relationship between Mariners-style mineralisation and the deeper Darlington basalt.

Wildwood Provides the Resource Anchor

While Darlington supplies the higher-grade exploration narrative, Wildwood is the portfolio’s defined resource anchor. The June 2023 JORC estimate totals 87,300 ounces of gold at 2.4 g/t, comprising 44,600 ounces in the Indicated category and 42,700 ounces Inferred across the Maslin, Clontarf and Trinity prospects.

NSM says Wildwood mineralisation is comparable in style to the Stawell Gold Mine and remains open in multiple directions, with limited testing below roughly 150 metres. That creates exploration upside in geological terms, but the presentation does not provide a revised resource, development study or economic assessment to establish how that potential might translate into a mine plan.

Geophysics Targets Gold Beneath Cover

The company’s broader proposition depends on seeing through a thin blanket of largely unmineralised sedimentary cover. NSM says about 85% of its tenements are masked, making gravity, magnetics, IP surveys and three-dimensional modelling central to locating the basalt bodies and fault structures it interprets as controls on gold mineralisation.

The company holds 445 square kilometres immediately north of the Stawell mine, within a 51-kilometre northern extension of the Stawell Mineralised Corridor. Its pipeline ranges from advanced targets at Darlington, Darlington West, Forsaken and Caledonia to less-tested prospects including Marlu, Barrabool and Bunyip. The presentation’s central wager is that the combination of basalt margins, structural dilation and pressure-shadow zones can be identified before drilling rather than discovered by chance.

The Next Test Is Conversion, Not Concept

For shareholders, the distinction between a persuasive exploration model and a mineable discovery remains the important one. NSM has assembled a coherent set of analogies, historical production data and geophysical targets, and its cited intercepts provide evidence of gold mineralisation at several prospects. The next announcements will need to show whether those isolated intervals connect into continuous zones, whether drilling can expand them at depth and along strike, and whether any resource can eventually support an economic study.

Bottom Line?

NSM has a credible geological model and a sizeable target pipeline, but the investment case now turns on converting high-grade intervals and concealed targets into continuity, scale and eventually a larger Mineral Resource.
