ADX Adds Funding Partner for Austrian GOLD Gas Well

Oil and Gas By Victor Sage 3 min read

ADX Energy has secured a potential funding partner for its next Austrian gas well, with Empyrean Energy offering EUR 555,400 for a 10% economic interest in the GOLD Cluster Area. The arrangement remains conditional on a final investment agreement before drilling is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

  • Empyrean to pay a non-refundable EUR 50,000 option fee
  • EUR 555,400 funding commitment tied to GOLD-1 drilling and testing
  • 10% economic interest available after the earn-in obligation is met
  • GOLD-1 well planned for the fourth quarter of 2026
  • Energy Investment Agreement still needs to be finalised

Empyrean Offers EUR 555,400 for GOLD-1 Funding

ADX Energy Ltd (ASX:ADX) has found an industry partner willing to fund a substantial share of its next Austrian gas well, but the proposed transaction stops short of being a completed farm-in. Empyrean Energy plc, listed on AIM, has agreed in principle to fund 20% of the drilling and testing costs for GOLD-1 in return for a 10% economic interest in the GOLD Cluster Area.

The funding is capped at EUR 555,400, equivalent to 20% of GOLD-1’s EUR 2.777 million well cost cap covering drilling, completion and testing. If Empyrean fulfils that obligation, it would join the partnership formed to explore, develop and produce hydrocarbons across the GOLD Cluster Area, then carry 10% of future partnership costs.

Option Period Runs Until 16 October

For now, Empyrean has paid, or agreed to pay, a non-refundable EUR 50,000 option fee for exclusivity through 16 October 2026. The parties intend to use that period to finalise an Energy Investment Agreement, the document that would give effect to the proposed earn-in.

That condition matters. Empyrean’s 10% participation does not arise merely from the binding heads of agreement; it depends on the investment agreement being executed and the specified GOLD-1 funding being provided. Any unused portion of the EUR 555,400 obligation would be applied to Empyrean’s share of a subsequent well within the GOLD Cluster Area.

GOLD-1 Follows HOCH-1 Testing

ADX VIE GmbH, ADX’s wholly owned Austrian subsidiary, operates the ADX-AT-II and ADX-AT-I licences, where the company has developed several shallow gas prospects close to infrastructure. GOLD-1 is planned as the second well in that shallow gas drilling programme, following the HOCH-1 gas discovery well, which is currently undergoing production testing.

ADX says it is targeting a GOLD-1 spud in the fourth quarter of 2026. The announcement contains no GOLD-1 drilling results and does not confirm commercial production. The immediate catalysts are therefore contractual rather than geological: completion of the Energy Investment Agreement, Empyrean’s funding and the eventual well test.

Bottom Line?

The agreement could share GOLD-1’s cost while bringing a new partner into the Austrian project, but its value to ADX remains contingent on documentation, funding and an untested well.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Empyrean and ADX complete the Energy Investment Agreement by 16 October 2026?
  • Will Empyrean provide the full EUR 555,400 earn-in funding before GOLD-1 drilling begins?
  • What will GOLD-1 testing show about the scale and commercial potential of the GOLD Cluster Area?
