Aureka Finds Gold Beyond Irvine’s 398,000-Ounce Resource

Aureka Resources has reported high-grade gold mineralisation beyond the current inferred resource at its Irvine project in Victoria, including a 4.74g/t intercept at depth and the first significant results from a 2km gap between established lodes. The results expand the exploration story, but remain early-stage drilling data with further assays pending.

High-Grade Gold Extends Beyond Resolution

Aureka Resources (ASX:AKA) has found high-grade gold outside the current JORC resource envelope at its Irvine Gold Project, opening a new line of exploration beneath the northern end of the Resolution Lode. Drill hole RD058 returned 3.92 metres at 4.74g/t gold from 238.82 metres, including 0.72 metres at 9.18g/t and a narrower 0.5-metre interval at 16.1g/t.

The company interprets the result as part of a possible new northern mineralised structure, positioned about 80 metres west of the Resolution Fault and outside the existing Inferred Mineral Resource. The hole also returned mineralisation higher up, including 0.95 metres at 3.71g/t from 116.75 metres, while further sections of RD058 remain awaiting assays.

South Resolution Hole Ends in Mineralisation

At South Resolution, hole RD054 encountered a separate shallow zone from 155.1 metres, returning 3.5 metres at 2.79g/t, including 0.7 metres at 8.78g/t. A second structure from 160 metres returned 1.7 metres at 2.1g/t, including a bottom assay of 3.09g/t.

Ground conditions stopped RD054 within the mineralised zone, leaving the targeted structure incompletely tested. Aureka says the hole will be re-targeted from another angle. The result is therefore encouraging as an exploration signal, but its eventual significance cannot be established from the current intercept alone, particularly because the reported lengths are down-hole measurements and true widths have not been stated.

Eaglehawk Drilling Opens Irvine’s 2km Gap

The most geographically significant development is the first meaningful mineralisation reported within the roughly 2km gap separating the Resolution and Adventure lodes. Drilling near the historic Eaglehawk mine identified reef extensions as shallow as 75 metres vertically below surface and at deeper levels, with results including 0.9 metres at 3.84g/t, 1 metre at 3.98g/t and 2.25 metres at 1.34g/t.

Those intercepts sit beyond the two lodes that make up Irvine’s current 398,300-ounce inferred resource. The company says the results support the idea that mineralisation extends onto the western flank of the Irvine basalt, rather than being confined to the eastern flank represented in the current resource model. That interpretation aligns with the renewed structural work behind the company’s refreshed Irvine geological model, although the new drilling is not yet a resource estimate.

Exploration Upside Still Sits Ahead of Resource Conversion

Aureka’s existing Irvine resource comprises 4.79 million tonnes at 2.59g/t for 398,300 ounces, all classified as Inferred. Its updated Advanced Exploration Targets cover a conceptual 85,000 to 197,000 ounces, while broader conceptual targets range from 151,000 to 348,000 ounces. Those figures are not Mineral Resources, and the company cautions that further exploration may not result in their conversion.

The release places Irvine within a wider Victorian portfolio that includes Fiddlers Creek, the St Arnaud Comstock project and the Wedderburn processing mill. The proposed operating pathway, including the Victorian mine and mill deal, gives Aureka a stated conceptual route towards production, but it does not turn Irvine’s exploration ounces into an economic project. Drilling is continuing across the northern and southern Resolution targets, the Eaglehawk area and other basalt-flank structures.

Bottom Line?

The drilling broadens Irvine’s geological footprint, but the next meaningful valuation step would require pending assays, follow-up drilling and eventual conversion of exploration success into a higher-confidence resource.
