Hancock Prospecting Backs White Cliff’s Rae Copper Ambitions

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Hancock Prospecting has agreed to invest A$8.77 million in White Cliff Minerals for a proposed 13.5% stake, giving the junior explorer fresh capital to accelerate drilling at its Rae Copper Project in Nunavut. The placement still requires shareholder approval.

  • A$8.77 million private placement at A$0.017 per share
  • Hancock Prospecting to hold approximately 13.5% if approved
  • Funds earmarked for Danvers 1, Danvers 2 and Danvers 3 drilling
  • Regional sediment-hosted copper exploration to accelerate
  • Extraordinary general meeting expected around 19 October 2026

Hancock Prospecting is putting A$8.77 million behind White Cliff Minerals’ Rae Copper Project, a significant show of confidence that would make Australia’s largest private company a 13.5% shareholder in the ASX-listed explorer. The proposed investment gives White Cliff a well-funded campaign across its emerging copper system, but it is not yet complete.

Hancock Placement Awaits Shareholder Approval

Hancock has agreed to subscribe for 515,791,601 new shares at A$0.017 each, which White Cliff says was the previous trading day’s closing price. The issue is subject to shareholder approval under ASX Listing Rule 10.11, along with customary conditions including ASX not refusing quotation of the new shares.

White Cliff intends to seek approval at an extraordinary general meeting expected around 19 October 2026. If approved, the placement will increase the number of shares on issue and leave existing holders with a smaller percentage ownership than before, while giving the company a substantial new exploration budget.

Drilling Targets Danvers Growth

The money, combined with existing cash reserves, will be directed primarily towards drilling and exploration at Rae. At Danvers 1, White Cliff plans to expand the most densely drilled mineralised envelope and fast-track an Exploration Target and Maiden Resource Estimate.

At Danvers 2 and Danvers 3, the company will pursue systematic step-out drilling to test the scale and continuity of copper mineralisation. The announcement cites prior Rae results including 23 metres at 6.18% copper at Danvers 3, alongside other high-grade intercepts across the project. Those results are exploration intersections, not yet a declared mineral resource.

Regional Rae Targets Add Exploration Scope

White Cliff is also broadening the program beyond the Danvers zones. An ultra-high-resolution airborne geophysical survey is due to support work on sediment-hosted copper targets, while the company says similar geophysical signatures to Danvers have been identified at Thor, Rocket, Vision and Stark. Downhole electromagnetic equipment is to be mobilised to refine and extend priority targets around known mineralisation.

The sediment-hosted opportunity at Hulk is another part of the planned acceleration. White Cliff says drilling has traced the interpreted footprint to approximately 6.3 square kilometres, with 2025 results including 3.5 metres at 7.2% copper and 25 metres at 0.6% copper. The company is now targeting stronger alteration and higher-grade, bornite-rich mineralisation, but the extent and economic significance of that system remain to be established.

Funding Raises the Stakes for Results

Hancock’s proposed entry changes the near-term test for White Cliff: the company now has a clear funding pathway to pursue a more ambitious drilling program, provided shareholders approve the issue. The next material markers are the meeting outcome, completion of the placement and whether drilling can convert Rae’s strong intercepts and broad geological footprint into an Exploration Target or Maiden Resource Estimate.

Bottom Line?

Hancock’s backing provides White Cliff with exploration firepower, but the investment thesis still turns on shareholder approval and whether accelerated drilling can define a viable copper resource.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will shareholders approve Hancock’s proposed 13.5% stake at the October meeting?
  • Can Danvers 1 deliver an Exploration Target and Maiden Resource Estimate on the planned timetable?
  • Will step-out and sediment-hosted drilling show continuity and scale beyond the strongest existing intersections?
