OD6 clears a key hurdle for Quinn fluorspar drilling

OD6 Metals has submitted a Plan of Operations covering up to 139 drill pads and bulk sampling at its Quinn Fluorspar Project in Nevada. The application moves the project towards its first systematic drilling campaign, but approval from the U.S. Forest Service remains outstanding.

OD6 Metals (ASX:OD6) has put its Nevada fluorspar project on the regulatory runway, lodging a Plan of Operations with the U.S. Forest Service for up to 139 drill pads and bulk sampling at Quinn. It is a meaningful shift from surface exploration and target generation towards the drilling needed to test the project’s geology, grade continuity and potential scale.

139 Drill Pads Proposed Across Quinn

The proposed programme covers the Horseshoe, Mammoth and Big Jim areas, along with other priority targets identified through geological mapping, geochemical sampling, structural interpretation and historical exploration. OD6 says around 10,000 metres of priority one drilling is contemplated, with multiple holes potentially drilled from individual pads to test mineralisation at different depths and orientations.

That design gives the company room to combine resource-definition drilling with step-out exploration while limiting additional surface disturbance. Quinn’s surface fluorspar mineralisation remains largely untested by drilling: the company says only four shallow historical holes have been completed at Horseshoe. The proposed work is intended to establish the spacing and geological information required to support a future Mineral Resource Estimate, although no resource has yet been declared for the project.

Bulk Sampling Adds a Metallurgical Workstream

The application is not limited to drill access. OD6 is also seeking approval to collect representative bulk samples for larger-scale ore sorting, crushing, screening, gravity or heavy-media separation, flotation and other beneficiation studies. The company intends to use the material to assess potential Metspar and Acidspar products, impurity deportment, recoveries and product specifications.

Bulk sampling could provide a more substantial test of the processing routes now being examined, but it remains part of the proposed programme rather than an approved activity. The filing does not provide project economics, a production schedule or a confirmed development pathway.

USFS Review Now Sets the Near-Term Course

OD6 has completed its planned biological and cultural field surveys across the project area, with final reports targeted for submission to the USFS in October 2026. It is seeking a Categorical Exclusion for the initial exploration phase, a potentially streamlined federal environmental review route, but the determination rests with the USFS, which may request changes, further information, mitigation measures, financial assurance or additional environmental analysis.

The USFS has an initial 30-day review period under the applicable regulations, although that does not guarantee a decision to approve the plan within that window. Drilling, bulk sampling and mobilisation remain pending, as do state and other ancillary approvals. OD6 has also begun engagement over possible FAST-41 Transparency status, but no designation has been granted and the programme’s regulatory requirements would remain in place even if it were accepted.

The application removes a major planning hurdle, but the next value-defining step is a USFS decision that permits OD6 to turn surface fluorspar indications into drill data and representative metallurgical samples.
