Prominence Maps 203 Bscf Hydrogen Opportunity Across 15 Eyre Leads
Prominence Energy has secured an independent resource framework for its Eyre Project, with RISC Advisory estimating 202.8 Bscf of 2U unrisked hydrogen and 9.2 Bscf of helium across 15 leads. The milestone moves the South Australian project towards target selection, potential farm-out discussions and a planned mid-2027 drilling campaign, but the volumes remain undiscovered and highly exploratory.

RISC Defines Eyre’s Maiden Resource Base
Prominence Energy Limited (ASX:PRM) has put numbers around its South Australian hydrogen and helium thesis, with independent adviser RISC Advisory estimating 202.8 Bscf of 2U, or best-estimate, unrisked hydrogen and 9.2 Bscf of helium at the Eyre Project.
The assessment also sets out a much wider theoretical range: 70.1 Bscf of 1U hydrogen at the low estimate and 491.6 Bscf at 3U, while helium ranges from 1.7 Bscf to 32.3 Bscf. On a risked basis, the 2U figures fall to 20.4 Bscf of hydrogen and 0.9 Bscf of helium after applying geological probabilities of success.
Fifteen Leads Spread Across Multiple Plays
RISC assessed 15 exploration leads spanning Eocene channels and sandstones, fractured granite basement and fractured sandstone. Six leads contain stacked objectives, meaning a single drilling location could potentially test more than one prospective horizon.
The largest 2U hydrogen objectives include Lead 2_15 at 33.0 Bscf, Lead 3_2 at 24.2 Bscf, Lead 2_7’s Eocene sandstone at 20.1 Bscf, Lead 2_2’s Eocene sandstone at 19.1 Bscf and Lead 3_1 at 17.2 Bscf. Together, those five targets account for about 56% of the aggregate P50 hydrogen and helium resource, with the remainder distributed across the wider portfolio.
Low Geological Confidence Keeps the Numbers Exploratory
The scale is notable, but the classification matters more than the headline volume. These are Prospective Resources associated with undiscovered accumulations, not reserves, contingent resources or evidence of a discovery. RISC assigned individual geological probabilities of success between 8% and 12%, based on its assessment of source, reservoir, trap and seal elements.
Prominence says the review draws on soil-gas sampling, satellite studies, geological and groundwater data, and gravity and magnetic interpretation. The company’s proposed drilling campaign is intended to test those geological assumptions directly; a successful well would also provide information relevant to the broader Eyre portfolio, although the filing does not establish that such a result is likely.
Farm-Out Planning Moves Ahead of Mid-2027 Wells
The resource review gives Prominence a basis for ranking targets by scale, geological evidence and drilling efficiency. Preliminary company costings indicate that about A$5 million could potentially fund three exploration wells, or two wells plus additional seismic, with updated engineering and cost estimates due in October.
Prominence also plans to begin preparing a potential farm-out or strategic partnering process in October. The next scheduled technical catalyst is the Northern Hinge Prospective Resources Review, targeted for the end of September, followed by detailed drilling design through November and December ahead of a targeted multi-well program in mid-2027.
Acreage and Funding Questions Remain
Eyre includes granted PEL 803, covering approximately 2,800 square kilometres, alongside application areas where Prominence is the preferred applicant. Those application areas remain subject to finalisation of Native Title arrangements. The company’s wider South Australian portfolio covers approximately 64,000 square kilometres, but Eyre is the first project in that portfolio to receive an independent prospective resource estimate.
The immediate test is therefore not whether the headline resource can be converted into production, but whether Prominence can select and fund wells capable of demonstrating a working hydrogen and helium system. Until drilling provides that evidence, the 203 Bscf headline remains a measure of exploration potential rather than an inventory of recoverable product.
