Meeka Metals uncovers a 270koz growth platform at Mt Holland

Meeka Metals has lifted its group Mineral Resource to approximately 1.5 million ounces after adding a maiden 270koz estimate for Mt Holland in Western Australia. The expansion comes with a sharper distinction between exploration potential and mine-ready inventory, as Ore Reserves fell to 355koz after depletion and portfolio changes.

  • Group Mineral Resource rises to 1.485Moz at 2.8g/t gold
  • Maiden Mt Holland estimate totals 270koz at 2.4g/t
  • Mt Holland contains 160koz Indicated and 110koz Inferred
  • Ore Reserves reduce to 355koz after depletion and St Anne’s change
  • Further infill and extensional drilling planned across Mt Holland and Murchison

Mt Holland adds 270koz to Meeka’s resource base

Meeka Metals Limited (ASX:MEK) has added 270,000 ounces of gold to its books through the newly acquired Mt Holland project, taking the group Mineral Resource to 1.485 million ounces at 2.8g/t gold. The initial Mt Holland estimate covers 3.57 million tonnes at 2.4g/t and comprises 160koz of Indicated material and 110koz Inferred.

The resource spans three deposits: Blue Vein, Bushpig and Razorback. Blue Vein accounts for 250koz, including 170koz across open-pit and underground categories, while Bushpig and Razorback contribute 10koz each. Meeka says all three deposits remain open, with the wider 71-square-kilometre tenement package covering roughly 24km of gold-bearing banded iron formation.

That acquisition-led increase is the clearest number in the statement, but the geological backdrop is doing much of the narrative work. Mt Holland sits in Western Australia’s Forrestania greenstone belt, near the historic Bounty gold mine, which produced about 1.2Moz at 5.12g/t before closing in 2001. The company says there has been no significant gold-focused exploration on its Mt Holland ground for roughly 15 years.

Resource growth arrives before reserve conversion

The filing is a Mineral Resource statement, not a development decision or an Ore Reserve declaration for Mt Holland. Meeka has constrained the new estimate using open-pit and underground assumptions, with open-pit material reported above 0.5g/t gold inside an optimised A$2,600-per-ounce pit shell and underground material reported above 1.0g/t within optimised stope shapes. Metallurgical test work indicates mid-90% recovery through conventional gravity and carbon-in-leach processing, but further drilling and studies would be needed before the resource could be converted into a reserve.

At group level, Ore Reserves stand at 355koz at 2.8g/t, down from 400koz a year earlier. Meeka attributes the movement to mining depletion, the inclusion of 25koz in run-of-mine stockpiles, and the removal of the St Anne’s open-pit reserve. The company said 150kt at 3.2g/t remains as Indicated Mineral Resource at St Anne’s for consideration in a future phase of open-pit mining.

Drilling becomes the next test of Mt Holland’s scale

Managing director and chief executive Tim Davidson said the company expects next year’s growth to come “through the drill bit”, with substantial drilling already under way in the Murchison and more work due to begin at Mt Holland (ASX:MEK). The stated programme includes infill and extensional drilling at Fairway, further work around Blue Vein, and testing of additional targets across the tenement.

The practical question is how much of the 270koz can move into higher-confidence categories, and whether drilling can expand the inventory beyond the first estimate. Mt Holland’s headline resource is weighted towards Indicated material at Blue Vein, while Bushpig and Razorback are currently Inferred and described as drill-limited. Permitting is ongoing, and the filing contains no Mt Holland production schedule or project-level Ore Reserve.

Bottom Line?

Mt Holland has given Meeka a meaningful resource increase, but the investment case now depends on drilling converting geological potential into higher-confidence and economically mineable ounces.

Questions in the middle?

  • How much of the 110koz Inferred Mt Holland resource can be upgraded through the next 12 to 18 months of drilling?
  • Will Blue Vein, Bushpig or Razorback produce a future Ore Reserve, rather than remain exploration inventory?
  • What mining studies, permitting milestones and funding requirements will sit between the resource and any development decision?
