Pantoro's Racetrack Discovery Moves Closer to Underground Development
Pantoro Gold has extended the interpreted mineralised strike at its Racetrack discovery to about 900 metres, with drilling returning several high-grade intersections. The company will begin a 450-metre exploration decline from the OK Underground Mine in the December 2026 quarter, although Racetrack remains outside the current Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve.
- Racetrack mineralisation extended to approximately 900 metres of strike
- 11.12 metres at 5.48 g/t gold, including 0.41 metres at 41.6 g/t
- Additional high-grade intercepts include 2.0 metres at 24.11 g/t and 1.29 metres at 51.46 g/t
- 450-metre exploration decline approved from the OK Underground Mine
- Three diamond rigs and one RC rig are targeting a maiden Mineral Resource estimate
Racetrack Extends Across 900 Metres
Pantoro Gold Limited (ASX:PNR) has pushed its Racetrack discovery into a more consequential phase, reporting a high-grade mineralised zone extending across approximately 900 metres of strike within the Mainfield at its Norseman Gold Project in Western Australia. Infill drilling has traced the zone from near surface to 600 metres below surface, with the eastern extension and depth still open.
The latest results include 11.12 metres at 5.48 grams per tonne gold, including 0.41 metres at 41.6 g/t; 2.0 metres at 24.11 g/t, including 1.6 metres at 44.42 g/t; and 2.11 metres at 13.07 g/t. Other notable intersections included 1.29 metres at 51.46 g/t, 1.19 metres at 24.28 g/t and 1.79 metres at 13.76 g/t.
Existing OK Mine to Provide Access
The more important development for investors is not another isolated assay result but the decision to move underground. Pantoro’s board has approved an approximately 450-metre exploration decline from the upper levels of the OK Underground Mine, with development scheduled to begin in the December 2026 quarter.
The decline will initially provide an underground drilling platform and is ultimately intended to become permanent access to the Racetrack orebody. Racetrack sits about 600 metres north of OK and is described by Pantoro as an ENE-trending cross-link structure between the Mararoa and Crown structures, analogous to the more than 500,000-ounce Bullen lode. Managing director Paul Cmrlec said using existing OK infrastructure should reduce the capital cost and time required to bring the deposit into production, though those outcomes remain dependent on further drilling, resource definition and mine planning.
Resource Estimate Remains the Next Gate
Three surface diamond rigs, supported by an RC rig, are continuing infill and extensional drilling. The immediate target is a maiden Mineral Resource estimate, with work extending east towards the Mararoa Reef and testing additional prospective stratigraphy.
That distinction matters. Racetrack is not included in the project’s stated 4.6 million-ounce Mineral Resource or 859,000-ounce Ore Reserve, so the reported intersections cannot yet be translated into reserve ounces or a confirmed production contribution. The company’s current Norseman growth strategy targets 100,000 ounces a year initially and more than 200,000 ounces annually over time, but this release does not revise those targets or provide a production schedule for Racetrack.
High Grades Come With Width Questions
The drilling is encouraging, but the headline grades need to be read alongside the technical caveats. Reported intersections are downhole lengths, and true widths are not known in all lodes, even though Pantoro says the current drilling is oriented perpendicular to the interpreted orebody. Results are uncut and use a lower reporting threshold of 1 g/t gold, with up to two metres of internal dilution permitted in significant intersections.
The next value test is therefore whether the 900-metre interpretation survives tighter drilling and can be converted into a maiden resource with sufficient continuity and mineable geometry. The exploration decline should provide faster access to the upper levels, but it also shifts Racetrack from a promising drill target toward a more expensive development decision.
Bottom Line?
Racetrack now has a defined underground work program, but its investment significance will depend on the maiden resource, the cost of the decline and whether drilling supports conversion into an Ore Reserve.
Questions in the middle?
- When will Pantoro publish the maiden Mineral Resource estimate for Racetrack?
- What capital will be required to develop the 450-metre decline and convert it into permanent mine access?
- Will the reported strike continuity translate into sufficient true width, grade continuity and mineable ounces for a material production contribution?
