AML3D Opens A New US Navy Revenue Stream With AU$0.5 Million Parts Order

AML3D has secured an initial AU$0.5 million order to manufacture three high-pressure copper-nickel components for US Navy nuclear submarines. The deal moves its Ohio operation from qualification programs into paid production, although delivery, testing and commissioning remain outstanding.

Qualification Work Converts Into Paid Production

AML3D Limited (ASX:AL3) has secured an approximately AU$0.5 million order from Austal USA Advanced Technologies for three large, high-pressure copper-nickel fluid control components destined for US Navy nuclear submarines. More important than the size of the first order is the change in status: AML3D is moving from qualifying its Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing technology to making production parts.

The components will be manufactured at AML3D’s US headquarters and technology centre in Stow, Ohio. The company says the order demonstrates that its earlier copper-nickel qualification program can be converted into production manufacturing for the US Navy Submarine Industrial Base.

Ohio Production Carries The Delivery Burden

Payment terms provide for 50% of the contract value upfront, with the balance due after delivery, testing and commissioning. Those final steps are expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of FY27, leaving part of the order’s execution and cash conversion still ahead.

AML3D says the order marks a shift from traditional manufacturing to its WAM technology for these components. The announcement describes the technology as producing parts that match or exceed traditional manufacturing, but the production parts still need to be delivered, tested and commissioned before the commercial result is fully realised.

Component Manufacturing Joins ARCEMY System Sales

The contract also gives AML3D a second commercial pathway in the US. Its scale-up strategy has initially centred on selling ARCEMY advanced manufacturing systems to support the Navy supply base; the company says 17 systems have been deployed to meet US demand, including 16 supporting the US Navy Submarine Industrial Base. Elsewhere in the same announcement, AML3D refers to 16 systems deployed for that support, leaving a minor counting discrepancy that the filing does not explain.

AML3D cites US Navy forecasts of demand for up to 100 advanced additive manufacturing systems and 1,600 additively manufactured components by 2030. That forecast points to a sizeable potential market, but this order covers only three components. The next test for the strategy is whether qualification work produces repeat orders at a meaningful pace, rather than remaining a series of isolated demonstrations.

The order is a useful commercial proof point, but its larger significance depends on successful delivery and follow-on component contracts beyond the initial three parts.
