PC Gold Limited (ASX:PC2) has uncovered a potentially valuable gap in its Spring Hill resource model: historical channel sampling at the Southern Adit returned 20.35 metres at 13.04g/t gold entirely outside the current Mineral Resource Estimate. Individual one-metre samples reached 74.8g/t, 61.2g/t and 40.45g/t gold.
Historical Adit Points Beyond Resource Boundary
The result comes from sampling along the development of a historical underground drive, rather than from modern drilling. The Southern Adit extends for about 190 metres, while LiDAR imagery indicates a further 150 metres of surface disturbance trending north towards the Main Adit and Middle Zone.
PC Gold says the Southern Adit sits 262 metres along strike from the Main Adit, where historical underground mining recovered 21,170 ounces at approximately 30g/t gold. The company characterises the new area as its third high-grade domain at Spring Hill, alongside the Main Adit and Link Zone.
Strong Grades, But Geometry Remains Unconfirmed
The headline interval needs to be read carefully. Much of the channel sampling was conducted along the mineralised strike, so the 20.35-metre figure does not represent true thickness. The company says drilling and confirmatory mapping are required to establish the mineralisation’s true width, dip continuity and geometry.
The underlying data is also historical. The sampling was completed in 1994 using 50-gram fire-assay charges, with the company noting that its current practice uses larger photon-assay samples because of the coarse-grained nature of the mineralisation. The historical results were checked against maps and plans, but the JORC commentary says modern verification is required once the adit is re-entered.
Drilling Planned Outside the 1.51Moz Resource
PC Gold plans to drill the Southern Adit target from late September, testing both down-dip and along-strike continuity. It is also assessing whether the adit can be refurbished and how it may interact with the Main Adit. Any additional ounces would sit alongside Spring Hill’s stated resource of 43.6 million tonnes at 1.1g/t gold for 1.5 million ounces, rather than forming part of that inventory today.
The filing says channel sampling inside the existing resource also returned grades materially above the corresponding block-model areas, although it does not provide detailed comparative figures. That creates an intriguing question for the project’s pre-feasibility work, but the Southern Adit remains an exploration target until drilling confirms that the historical grades persist in three dimensions.
