PTR Minerals Finds Aquifers Across All Rosewood Water Targets
PTR Minerals has confirmed water-bearing aquifers at all three palaeochannel targets tested near its Rosewood Titanium Project, supporting the proposed gravity-based processing route. The result improves the project’s water supply outlook, but yield, quality and long-term sustainability still require testing.

Three Rosewood targets intersect water-bearing aquifers
PTR Minerals Limited (ASX:PTR) has found water-bearing aquifers at all three palaeochannel targets tested near its Rosewood Titanium Project in South Australia, removing one of the more practical questions facing the proposed development: where its processing water could come from.
The company says groundwater is central to the gravity-based processing flowsheet it anticipates using at Rosewood. The four-week hydrogeological program targeted interpreted sand and gravel sequences identified through remote sensing and historical exploration drilling. At two sites, PTR installed cased test and observation wells for future pump testing.
Water supply remains unquantified
The result validates PTR’s targeting method and improves the likelihood of finding processing water close to the proposed mining operation. It does not yet establish how much water the aquifers can provide, whether the quality is suitable, or whether supply would be sustainable over the life of a mine.
PTR plans to use detailed geophysical surveys, including passive seismic work, to map the aquifer systems before carrying out additional drilling and test pumping. Five shallow monitoring wells have also been installed across the Rosewood Deposit to build the hydrogeological baseline needed for environmental approvals and a planned Mining Lease application.
Heritage clearance opens the next drilling phase
A Native Title Heritage Survey completed with the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Aboriginal Corporation in July has cleared land for future JORC Measured Resource infill drilling at Rosewood, as well as regional exploration across brownfields and greenfields targets within the broader Muckanippie Project.
Meanwhile, Rosewood’s scoping study is moving into optimisation, engineering review and financial modelling. PTR has released its first trial product sample to a customer, with feedback intended to inform the process flowsheet, potential applications and product specifications. Further samples are scheduled for dispatch, although the company made clear that this announcement contains no new exploration results.
Bottom Line?
The aquifers answer an important development question, but the next meaningful test will be whether pump testing converts geological indications into a reliable, permitted and commercially useful water supply.
