Noodlecake Signs Strange Scaffold Mobile Deal
Streamplay Studio Limited (ASX:SP8) is adding an unusually themed game to its mobile publishing pipeline, with wholly owned Noodlecake Studios agreeing to port and publish Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator on iOS and Android. The game turns fictional alien lives into a tradable securities market, allowing players to buy, sell and short shares as simulated events change their value.
The title has already launched on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Its mobile release is targeted for Q1 2027, although that timing remains conditional on porting, certification and final storefront scheduling.
Existing Player Reception Meets Mobile Uncertainty
The Steam version has recorded a “Very Positive” user rating, with about 91% of more than 500 reviews marked positive. That gives Noodlecake an established reception signal to work from, but the filing expressly cautions that PC review performance is not predictive of mobile sales or future financial results.
Strange Scaffold is led by Xalavier Nelson Jr., whose credits include I Am Your Beast, El Paso, Elsewhere and directing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown. The studio’s satirical treatment of economic systems, including this game’s fictional intergalactic market, gives the project a clear identity rather than presenting it as a generic mobile conversion.
Recoupment Model Leaves Financial Upside Unquantified
Noodlecake will handle the technical port, mobile optimisation, storefront submissions, publishing and post-launch support. Under its typical publishing framework, Streamplay retains 80% to 100% of revenue until its investment and associated costs are recouped, after which the commercial split generally moves into a 20% to 40% revenue-share range, depending on the project’s development, financing and technical requirements.
The agreement does not disclose a transaction value, minimum guarantee, launch forecast or project-specific commercial split. That makes the signing strategically useful as another pipeline addition, but difficult to translate into a near-term earnings estimate. Revenue, if material, will depend on platform performance, release timing and the effectiveness of post-launch support.
Mobile Launch Joins Noodlecake’s Expanding Pipeline
The deal arrives after Noodlecake launched Flick Shot Rogues on iOS and Android on 16 September 2026. That title received prominent Apple App Store and Google Play placement at launch, although Streamplay also stressed that storefront visibility is an operational indicator rather than evidence of sales conversion or future revenue.
For Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator, the next meaningful milestones are less theatrical: completion of the port, certification, storefront approval and the eventual release date. Until those steps are cleared, the game is an addition to Noodlecake’s pipeline, not yet a demonstrated mobile growth driver.
Bottom Line?
The agreement expands Noodlecake’s content pipeline, but the investment required and the game’s ability to convert PC interest into mobile revenue will only become clearer after launch.
Questions in the middle?
- How much will Noodlecake invest in the port before revenue recoupment begins?
- Will the game’s distinctive trading mechanics translate effectively to iOS and Android controls?
- Can the Q1 2027 target survive porting, certification and storefront scheduling?
