New Talisman reveals fresh gold potential beyond Talisman resource
New Talisman Gold Mines has outlined a conceptual exploration target of up to 550,000 ounces of gold beyond its existing 350,000-ounce gold-equivalent resource at the Talisman Project. The company now plans 18 to 20 drillholes in calendar Q1 2027 to test six priority mineralised structures.
- Conceptual target of 1.3-1.9 million tonnes at 6-9 g/t gold and 16-23 g/t silver
- Estimated 260,000-550,000 ounces of gold and 650,000-1,360,000 ounces of silver
- Target is additional to the existing 350,000-ounce gold-equivalent Mineral Resource
- 18-20 diamond drillholes planned for calendar Q1 2027
- Historical data, QA/QC and metallurgical gaps still need to be addressed
Exploration Target Adds Potential Beyond Existing Resource
New Talisman Gold Mines Limited (NZX:NTL) has identified up to 550,000 ounces of conceptual gold potential at its Talisman Project, adding a sizeable exploration proposition alongside the company’s existing 350,000-ounce gold-equivalent Mineral Resource. The target covers an estimated 1.3-1.9 million tonnes at 6-9 grams per tonne of gold and 16-23 grams per tonne of silver, with contained metal estimated at 260,000-550,000 ounces of gold and 650,000-1,360,000 ounces of silver.
That headline number comes with an important geological qualifier: this is an Exploration Target, not a Mineral Resource or Ore Reserve. New Talisman says there has been insufficient exploration to estimate a resource, and there is no certainty that further work will produce one.
Six Structures Prioritised for Follow-Up Work
An independent technical review validated historical geological and sampling data, converted spatial datasets to the NZGD2000 datum and built a new three-dimensional model of the project. The work identified six priority areas: the Dubbo and Woodstock shoots within the Maria vein, the Woodstock Splay, the Welcome and Crown veins, and the Mystery vein.
The Dubbo shoot is the largest and highest-grade component of the target, estimated at 0.43-0.53 million tonnes grading 8-11 g/t gold and 20-27.5 g/t silver. It represents approximately 110,000-190,000 ounces of gold and 280,000-470,000 ounces of silver within the broader conceptual estimate.
Chairperson Samantha Sharif said the review had provided a modern geological framework and a targeted drilling strategy for systematic exploration. The company’s announcement also positions the work as a pathway towards possible resource growth, although that outcome remains dependent on future drilling, data quality and geological continuity.
Drilling Scheduled to Begin in Calendar Q1 2027
RSC has designed an initial programme of 18-20 diamond drillholes to test all six target domains. Where possible, the holes will intersect multiple veins, with the first phase planned for calendar Q1 2027. Subject to the results, New Talisman expects follow-up drilling during calendar Q2 to Q4 2027 to reduce drill spacing and improve confidence in grade and geological continuity.
The technical review also produced indicative spacing guidelines of 50 metres by 50 metres for areas that could support Inferred classification and 25 metres by 25 metres for areas that could support Indicated classification. Those are planning parameters, not a resource classification for the Exploration Target.
Historical Data Leaves Material Work Ahead
The company’s own technical disclosures set out the main constraints. Parts of the dataset rely on historical bullion assays, some sampling locations have uncertain spatial accuracy, and detailed quality-control information is unavailable for portions of the early channel sampling. The review also found historical coordinate transformation issues.
Before any Mineral Resource can be estimated for these areas, further work is required on QA/QC, topographic and survey control, bulk-density measurements and metallurgical testing. No new drillhole information has been acquired since 2020, making the forthcoming programme the first material test of the newly modelled target areas.
Bottom Line?
The exploration target gives New Talisman a clearer growth pipeline, but the next value-defining evidence will come from drill intersections and the quality controls needed to convert a conceptual target into a resource.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the planned 18-20 holes confirm continuity across all six target structures?
- How will historical sampling and coordinate uncertainties affect the resulting geological model?
- Can future drilling, density data and metallurgical work support a Mineral Resource estimate?
