First Au finds a faster route into Ida Valley gold exploration
First Au has agreed to acquire the Ida Valley Gold Project in Western Australia for A$100,000 in cash and A$100,000 in shares. The project comes with historical drilling across two prospects, but the data still needs to be validated and the transaction remains conditional.
- Binding agreement for two Western Australian exploration licences
- Historical drilling database covers the Ida Valley and Pinnacles prospects
- A$100,000 cash exclusivity fee plus A$100,000 in FAU shares
- Validation work planned ahead of a potential maiden JORC-compliant Mineral Resource
- Completion requires shareholder, regulatory and ministerial approvals

Historical drilling underpins Ida Valley acquisition
First Au Limited (ASX:FAU) is adding another Western Australian gold project to its portfolio, signing a binding agreement to acquire the Ida Valley Gold Project from TechGen Metals. The attraction is less a fresh geological discovery than the database behind it: historical drilling has already been carried out across the Ida Valley and Pinnacles prospects.
That gives First Au a potentially faster starting point than a greenfields exploration program. After completion, the company plans to validate and review the historical information before deciding how to progress the project towards a maiden JORC-compliant Mineral Resource. No exploration results or mineral resource were reported in the announcement.
The move follows First Au’s recent push to assemble Western Australian assets where previous exploration may shorten the path to resource definition. Its Sandstone project acquisition also involved historical drilling and a stated focus on validating data ahead of a maiden JORC-compliant resource.
A$200,000 consideration leaves share count open
The agreed consideration totals A$200,000: A$100,000 has been paid as an exclusivity fee, while a further A$100,000 will be issued in FAU shares. The share price will be calculated using First Au’s 15-trading-day volume-weighted average price before completion, so the eventual number of shares is not yet fixed.
The project comprises two exploration licences in the Ida Fault district, near the convergence of the Ballard and Ida faults. First Au describes the geology as prospective Archean greenstone terrain dominated by komatiite and porphyry units, with metamorphosed sedimentary inclusions.
Completion depends on approvals and data validation
The transaction still requires shareholder approval under ASX Listing Rule 7.1, along with regulatory, third-party and any applicable ministerial consents. Completion is expected shortly after the required general meeting, but until those conditions are met the acquisition remains a proposed transaction rather than an added asset.
There is also an apparent inconsistency in the announcement’s tenement references: the acquisition terms identify the Ida Valley licence as E 26/1053, while the project description refers to E 29/1053. That detail will need to be clarified as the transaction progresses. More materially, the historical database has not yet been independently validated by First Au, and the resource target remains an intention rather than an established outcome.
Bottom Line?
The value of the deal will turn on whether historical drilling can be verified and converted into a credible resource model, not on the modest upfront price alone.
Questions in the middle?
- Will shareholders and regulators approve the transaction, and when will completion occur?
- Why does the announcement cite both E 26/1053 and E 29/1053 for the Ida Valley tenement?
- How much of the historical drilling database can First Au validate and use in a maiden resource estimate?
