Iceni Gold sharpens Goose Well target as Gold Fields drilling advances

Iceni Gold has defined a new drilling corridor at Goose Well after diamond drilling confirmed broad, low-grade gold mineralisation with higher-grade quartz veins near the Gander Fault. The company is also preparing for a Gold Fields-funded 7,000m RC campaign at Everleigh, with results expected from December.

  • 20.62m at 0.45 g/t gold intersected at Goose Well, including a 0.32m zone at 5.97 g/t
  • Follow-up drilling planned across an initial 400m of the Gander Fault
  • Gold Fields-funded Everleigh program targets 50 holes across the Bellbird Dolerite sill
  • Gold Fields increased its Iceni holding to approximately 9.5% through a $0.7 million placement
  • Quarter-end cash stood at $1.63 million after approximately $0.90 million of quarterly expenditure

Goose Well delivers a new drilling corridor

Iceni Gold Limited (ASX:ICL) has sharpened its exploration focus at Goose Well, where a single 362-metre diamond hole has outlined a broad mineralised system around the Gander Fault. Hole FMDD0058 returned 20.62 metres at 0.45 g/t gold from 208.47 metres, including narrower intervals of 0.32 metres at 5.97 g/t, 0.50 metres at 2.03 g/t and 0.46 metres at 1.33 g/t.

The result is not a mineral resource, but it has given Iceni a more specific geological model to test. The company interpreted an approximately 54-metre-wide low-grade mineralised envelope within altered quartz syenite and monzogranite, with higher-grade quartz veins locally associated with altered lamprophyres on the western side of the fault. That interpretation builds on the broad Goose Well gold zone, which earlier drilling had identified as a target for structural follow-up.

Gander Fault model points to 400 metres of follow-up

Multi-element geochemistry from FMDD0058 identified two lamprophyre populations. The altered alkaline group, which carries a deep-mantle source signature, is preferentially associated with the higher-grade gold and appears linked to deformation along the Gander Fault. A later, relatively unaltered group is generally unmineralised.

Iceni is now planning step-out reverse-circulation and diamond drilling across the southern 400 metres of the fault, using five proposed traverses at 80-metre spacing. The initial design includes two east-directed RC holes per traverse, with diamond holes intended to improve understanding of vein orientation and the timing of mineralisation. The broader fault corridor extends for more than 1.8 kilometres within Iceni's wholly owned tenure, although the follow-up program remains subject to funding.

Gold Fields-funded Everleigh drilling moves towards November

While Goose Well remains an Iceni-funded target, the company's next major field activity is expected at Everleigh under its farm-in with Gold Fields. The partners have approved a Stage 1 program of about 7,000 metres across 50 RC holes along the approximately 5-kilometre Bellbird Dolerite sill, including the Wild West Trend and its Rio Bravo, Sundance and High Noon anomalies.

A heritage survey is scheduled for October, with drilling expected to begin in early November if clearance is obtained. Initial results are expected in December. Gold Fields has paid $1.5 million upfront and may spend up to $10 million to earn as much as a 70% interest in the Everleigh tenements, while the program itself is to be funded by Gold Fields. The partnership was formalised after the Everleigh farm-in agreement opened the project to a larger exploration budget.

Cash position leaves Goose Well funding as the next test

Iceni ended the quarter with $1.63 million in cash after spending approximately $0.90 million on exploration, tenement costs, staff, contractors and administration. It also raised $0.7 million before costs through a placement priced at $0.02 a share, with attaching options, and Gold Fields increased its holding to approximately 9.5%. The placement was directed towards Goose Well drilling, other 14 Mile Well exploration and working capital; the Gold Fields-funded Everleigh campaign reduces the immediate funding burden for that program.

The contrast is important. Everleigh has a defined near-term work program backed by a major industry participant, while Goose Well's next phase still depends on Iceni securing the money to test continuity. The coming months should therefore provide two different measures of progress: whether Everleigh generates meaningful results from a systematic campaign, and whether Iceni can fund enough drilling at Goose Well to determine if isolated higher-grade veins connect into a broader system.

Bottom Line?

Everleigh offers funded drilling and near-term results, but Goose Well's exploration case now depends on converting one encouraging hole into a financeable follow-up program.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the 7,000m Everleigh program confirm gold continuity along the Bellbird Dolerite sill?
  • Can the Gander Fault drilling establish a continuous mineralised system beyond FMDD0058?
  • How much funding will Iceni need to complete its planned Goose Well follow-up while maintaining its broader exploration portfolio?
