Infinity’s Orange Plant Moves Cangai Waste Toward Commercial Testing
Orivium has begun construction of a modular processing plant in Orange, NSW, to test recovery of copper from Infinity Mining’s Cangai waste. The partner-funded facility could be operational within six months, but any revenue remains conditional on feedstock access, successful processing and metal sales.
- Construction started on the Orivium-funded Alpha Plant in Orange, NSW
- Facility will test Super Oxidiser technology on Cangai smelter waste and oxide dumps
- Orivium expects commissioning within six months based on its internal plan
- Infinity’s initial revenue depends on processing results, feedstock access and recovered-metal sales

Orivium Starts Construction at Orange Site
Infinity Mining Limited (ASX:IMI) has reached a tangible milestone in its partnership with Orivium Global, with construction now under way on the Alpha Plant at Orange in New South Wales. The modular facility is intended to test Orivium’s Super Oxidiser technology on copper-bearing waste from Infinity’s Cangai project, rather than wait for a full-scale commercial plant.
Orivium has secured a long-term industrial-site lease and is funding, building, owning and operating the plant. First concreting and power installation have started, while equipment and materials are being procured. Infinity said the required approvals for the current construction works are in place.
The development builds on earlier laboratory work in which the parties reported almost complete copper recovery from Cangai smelter waste. That result was reported in near-perfect copper recovery, but the new plant will test whether the process can be applied in a more practical operating environment.
Six-Month Target, Conditional Revenue Path
Orivium estimates the Alpha Plant could be operational within six months, based on its internal procurement and construction plan. The company described the Orange location as suitable because of its infrastructure, transport links, utilities, workforce and proximity to potential feedstock opportunities.
For Infinity, the attraction is a potential route to initial processing revenue without carrying the plant’s construction and lease costs. That opportunity is not yet bankable: the parties still need suitable representative Cangai material and access to it, and revenue depends on successful processing followed by the sale of recovered metals. No production volume, recovery rate, revenue estimate or operating-cost forecast was provided.
The plant’s first verification work will also need to settle how heterogeneous smelter waste should be prepared before chemical extraction. The parties plan to assess crushing, fine grinding and conventional flotation requirements, alongside process design, economics, safety and environmental considerations. Commercial terms covering processing, logistics, campaign costs and revenue sharing will be documented before Infinity’s Cangai campaign begins.
Expansion Depends on Test Results and Feedstock
Orivium intends to use the facility for its own research and development, technology promotion and work under the parties’ memoranda of cooperation. Future feedstocks could include e-waste and other ores, although the immediate focus is Cangai smelter slag and ex-mine oxide dumps.
A successful demonstration could support consideration of a larger commercial plant or an expansion of the modular Orange facility. That outcome would require successful testing, viable economics, available feedstock and any applicable approvals. The next useful evidence will therefore come from commissioning, representative-feed testing and the commercial arrangements that determine how much value, if any, flows through to Infinity.
Bottom Line?
Construction removes one execution hurdle, but the investment case still turns on commissioning, metallurgical performance and commercial terms that have yet to be finalised.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Alpha Plant meet Orivium’s six-month operational estimate?
- What recovery rates, operating costs and metal-sale economics will emerge from representative Cangai feedstock?
- How will processing charges and revenue sharing be structured before Infinity begins its Cangai campaign?
