Multistack faces funding questions after main undertaking disposal

Multistack International reported $246,093 in cash at 30 September after burning $115,313 on operations during the quarter. With no financing facilities disclosed and no replacement business yet identified, the company says it is investigating opportunities while continuing to meet its ASX obligations.

  • $115,313 quarterly operating cash outflow
  • $246,093 cash balance at 30 September
  • Estimated funding of 2.13 quarters
  • No financing facilities disclosed
  • New business opportunities remain under investigation

Cash runway extends only slightly beyond two quarters

Multistack International Limited (ASX:MSI) ended the September quarter with $246,093 in cash after recording a $115,313 net operating cash outflow. The company disclosed no financing facilities, leaving its estimated funding at 2.13 quarters based on the reported quarterly burn rate.

The cash position is materially lower than the $361,406 reported at the end of June. The latest quarter’s outflows were entirely attributed to administration and corporate costs, while the nine-month operating cash outflow reached $543,623.

Post-disposal company remains in strategic limbo

The filing comes after the main undertaking disposal, which was completed on 1 July and involved the sale of Multistack Australia. The September report records $318,554 of net cash disposed with that subsidiary in the nine months to date, although no investing cash outflow was recorded during the latest quarter.

Multistack said it expects negative net operating cash flow “for the time being” and is investigating various business opportunities. It said its remaining cash reserves are intended to support ongoing corporate, statutory and ASX compliance obligations, while the company continues to be operated as a going concern.

No capital-raising plan disclosed

The company did not identify a proposed capital raising or other financing arrangement in response to the cash runway disclosure. Instead, it said an announcement would be released when appropriate. That leaves the timing and structure of any future funding, as well as the nature of any replacement business, unresolved.

The immediate arithmetic is straightforward but unforgiving: at the September quarter’s operating burn, the reported cash balance covers a little more than two quarters. Any change in administration costs, transaction expenses or progress towards a new business opportunity could alter that runway before Multistack has an operating asset to replace the undertaking it sold.

Bottom Line?

Multistack has a limited cash buffer and no disclosed funding facilities; the next material catalyst is likely to be a decision on a new business or how the company will finance its continuing corporate obligations.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Multistack identify a new business opportunity before its reported cash runway narrows materially?
  • Will the company pursue a capital raising or establish another financing facility?
  • Can administration and compliance costs remain within the current quarterly burn rate?
