Regal FUM reaches $21.9 billion
Regal Partners Limited (ASX:RPL) has taken funds under management to approximately $21.9 billion after another quarter of fundraising, extending its run of positive net flows to 12 consecutive quarters. FUM rose 2.4% in the three months to 30 September, with net inflows of about $0.7 billion taking inflows for the first nine months of 2026 to just over $2.0 billion.
The latest figure builds on the company’s strong first-half trajectory, when it reported approximately $21.4 billion of FUM and record half-year inflows. The September update shows that momentum continued, although the release is an operational measure rather than an earnings forecast and the figures are management estimates, rounded and unaudited.
Hedge funds provide the fundraising engine
Hedge fund strategies accounted for most of the quarter’s net inflows, adding $681 million and taking the category to $11.164 billion. The largest named contributor was PM Capital Global Opportunities Fund Limited (ASX:PGF), which raised $0.4 billion through a placement and share purchase plan, alongside continued demand for Regal’s unlisted global long/short strategy.
That fundraising comes after the earlier record half-year inflows, when Regal reported $1.4 billion of net inflows and FUM of $21.4 billion. The current update also points to continued activity in credit and royalties, including a $0.2 billion credit commitment from a sovereign fund received in August. Part of that commitment was deployed during the quarter, while the Regal Resources Royalties Fund continued to attract inflows.
Performance contributes little to quarterly growth
Investment performance was broadly neutral across the group, reducing FUM by $25 million in aggregate. Hedge funds recorded a $155 million performance decline, more than offsetting positive contributions from credit and royalties, growth equity, real and natural assets, and multi-strategy portfolios.
Other movements reduced total FUM by approximately $133 million, reflecting distributions, buy-backs and foreign exchange movements. Including non-fee-earning commitments, total FUM and commitments reached $22.976 billion at quarter-end, but the company cautions that commitments are not fee-earning and should not be treated as equivalent to reported FUM.
Flow quality becomes the next test
The headline growth is therefore primarily a fundraising story rather than a performance story. The next updates should clarify how much of the sovereign credit commitment is deployed, whether hedge-fund demand persists, and how the mix of fee-earning assets develops beneath the broader FUM figure.
Bottom Line?
Regal’s fundraising engine remains in motion, but the next measure of progress will be the conversion of commitments and inflows into fee-earning assets and investment performance.
Questions in the middle?
- How much of the sovereign fund’s $0.2 billion credit commitment will be deployed in future quarters?
- Can hedge-fund inflows remain strong after the PM Capital placement and share purchase plan?
- Will investment performance make a more meaningful contribution to FUM growth in the December quarter?
