GenusPlus adds $255 million to its Western Australian pipeline
GenusPlus Group Ltd (ASX:GNP) has secured approximately $255 million of new power infrastructure contracts from Western Power and Fortescue, giving the infrastructure contractor a sizeable run of work across Western Australia. The awards cover both regulated electricity network projects and Fortescue mine-site infrastructure, with delivery scheduled progressively through early 2029.
Western Power work reaches into 2029
The Western Power package includes the Clean Energy Link-East project, transmission and distribution maintenance across the South West Interconnected System, and customer connection work for Waddi Wind Farm. The flagship CEL-E project involves designing and constructing an augmentation to an existing 330kV terminal, intended to increase transmission capacity and support the connection and transport of renewable energy from Western Australia’s southern region.
The CEL-E work is scheduled for completion in early 2029. The maintenance packages are currently due to finish by June 2027, while the Waddi Wind Farm connection package, including a new 132kV substation, is scheduled for completion by April 2027.
Fortescue contracts target mine-site electrification
GenusPlus will also design and build approximately 60 kilometres of 33kV power distribution infrastructure at Fortescue’s Christmas Creek and Solomon mine sites. The scope includes about 425 poles, overhead line conductor, underground high-voltage cable and associated hardware.
Fortescue has said its Australian terrestrial iron ore operations are targeting the elimination of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by the end of 2030, with green power generation and distribution forming part of that plan. GenusPlus expects peak onsite staffing of approximately 100 people, with site access planned from November 2026 and completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.
Contract economics remain undisclosed
The headline figure is material, but the announcement does not break down the value of the individual awards or disclose expected margins, revenue recognition or other commercial terms. Nor does it say whether the scheduled completion dates carry conditions that could alter the timing of work. Those details will determine how quickly the contract wins translate into reported earnings and how much additional delivery capacity GenusPlus must deploy.
For now, the next identifiable milestones are mobilisation for the Fortescue work from November 2026 and progress across the Western Power packages, particularly the Waddi connection and the CEL-E terminal augmentation. The value is clear; the quality of the earnings contribution will emerge only as the projects move from award to construction.
Bottom Line?
The awards improve multi-year work visibility, but investors still need contract-level detail and evidence of disciplined execution before judging their earnings contribution.
Questions in the middle?
- How much of the approximately $255 million will be recognised in each financial year?
- What margins and commercial terms attach to the Western Power and Fortescue packages?
- Can GenusPlus mobilise the required workforce and equipment without putting pressure on project execution?
