Amplia Shares Fall 21% Before ASX Price Query Response

Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology By Victor Sage 2 min read

Amplia Therapeutics has told ASX it is unaware of any undisclosed information that explains a sharp fall in its share price and a surge in trading volume. The response followed an ASX price query issued after the stock dropped from $0.100 to $0.079 on 16 October.

  • Share price fell from $0.100 to $0.079
  • Trading volume increased significantly on 16 October
  • Amplia denied knowledge of undisclosed market-sensitive information
  • Company confirmed compliance with continuous disclosure rules
  • No trading halt or new operational announcement was disclosed

ASX Questions Amplia After Sharp Price Fall

Amplia Therapeutics Limited (ASX:ATX) has denied that undisclosed company information was behind a sharp move in its shares, after ASX Supervision queried the stock’s trading on 16 October. The exchange said Amplia’s price had fallen from $0.100 at the previous close to an intraday low of $0.079, while trading volume increased significantly.

Amplia said it was “not aware of any information concerning it that has not been announced to the market” which could explain the activity. It also said it had no other explanation for the recent trading.

Company Confirms Continuous Disclosure Compliance

The company confirmed it was complying with the ASX Listing Rules, including Listing Rule 3.1, which covers the immediate disclosure of market-sensitive information. Its response was authorised by Managing Director Chris Burns under delegated authority from the board.

The exchange’s letter asked whether Amplia was relying on the confidential-information exception to delay an announcement and warned that unusual trading could indicate information was no longer confidential. Amplia’s response did not identify any pending announcement, clinical development, transaction or other event that might account for the price movement.

Unusual Trading Remains Unexplained

The filing is therefore a regulatory clarification rather than a new business update. It provides no additional information on Amplia’s FAK inhibitor pipeline, including narmafotinib, and does not announce a trading halt or suspension.

The immediate question is whether the unexplained volume persists or whether Amplia later publishes information that gives the market a reason for the move. Until then, the price query establishes that ASX noticed the trading, but not what caused it.

Bottom Line?

Amplia has ruled out any known undisclosed explanation, leaving subsequent announcements and trading patterns as the main clues to the share-price move.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Amplia identify any operational, clinical or financing development that explains the unusual trading retrospectively?
  • Will the elevated trading volume continue after the ASX price query?
  • Could ASX seek further information or take regulatory action if the trading remains unexplained?
