Core Lithium’s Blackbeard drilling reveals a thicker high-grade lithium system
Core Lithium has reported its longest mineralised intersection yet at the Blackbeard prospect, with diamond hole NMRD104 returning 92m at 1.25% Li2O. The result strengthens evidence of continuity near the Finniss processing plant, although assays remain pending and Blackbeard has no Mineral Resource.
- 92m at 1.25% Li2O from NMRD104, including 73m at 1.45%
- Estimated true width of about 45m in the NMRD104 intersection
- Partial NMRD108 result of 29m at 1.35% Li2O
- Blackbeard drilling program totals 12,150m and remains ongoing
- No Mineral Resource has yet been estimated for Blackbeard

NMRD104 delivers Blackbeard’s longest mineralised intersection
Core Lithium Ltd (ASX:CXO) has produced its strongest drilling result yet from Blackbeard, with diamond hole NMRD104 intersecting 92m at 1.25% Li2O from 92m. The interval includes 73m at 1.45% Li2O from 110m, making it the longest downhole mineralised intersection recorded at the prospect.
The result is not an isolated hit in the company’s interpretation. NMRD104 sits about 80m up-dip from an earlier 63m at 1.67% Li2O intersection in NRC269, and Core says the two holes provide further evidence of continuity in the high-grade zone. The reported length is downhole; the estimated true thickness of NMRD104 is approximately 45m.
NMRD108 adds evidence along strike
Partial assays from NMRD108 returned 29m at 1.35% Li2O from 209m. The hole was drilled about 50m along strike from an earlier intersection in SRC117, which returned 41m at 1.63% Li2O, while assays for roughly 67m of NMRD108’s 96m pegmatite intersection are still outstanding.
Results from the other holes underline why the announcement remains an exploration update rather than a resource statement. NMRD103 returned 19m at 0.59% Li2O, while NMRD105 produced separate intervals of 4m at 1.11% and 12.9m at 0.72%. Deep holes NMRD101 and NMRD102 returned no significant intercepts, with NMRD101 encountering several thin pegmatites at depth.
Blackbeard could feed Finniss expansion studies
Blackbeard’s appeal lies partly in its location. The prospect is less than 20km from Core’s existing Finniss processing plant, established logistics network and infrastructure. The company says a successful resource definition program could support future mining studies, ore-feed options and assessment of throughput above the current 1.2Mtpa base case, using more than 2Mtpa of existing crushing capacity.
That potential sits alongside Core’s wider Finniss growth program, including BP33 resource definition drilling and development work. The company’s parallel BP33 high-grade drilling had previously been described as extending mineralisation beyond the existing resource, but Blackbeard remains at an earlier stage and has not yet been assigned a Mineral Resource.
Assays and resource definition remain the key tests
The Blackbeard campaign is a staged 12,150m diamond drilling program, with drilling continuing and results due progressively. The company says the current holes are being used to refine its geological understanding and expand the known extent of the pegmatite and mineralisation.
For investors, the immediate test is whether the remaining NMRD108 assays and subsequent holes reproduce the width and grade seen in NMRD104 across enough of the system to support a formal resource estimate. Until that work is complete, the headline intersection is significant exploration evidence, not yet a mine plan or a production forecast.
Bottom Line?
NMRD104 materially improves the exploration story at Blackbeard, but the next assays must convert a standout intersection into repeatable geological continuity.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the remaining NMRD108 assays confirm the high-grade zone along strike?
- Can ongoing drilling establish enough continuity for a maiden Blackbeard Mineral Resource?
- Could Blackbeard ultimately support Finniss throughput expansion without requiring disproportionate new capital?
