Mt Ida Supply Agreement Extended to 2030
Aquirian Limited (ASX:AQN) has added approximately $21 million to its contracted revenue base after wholly owned subsidiary Western Energetics secured a three-year extension at the Mt Ida Gold Project in Western Australia. The extension is in addition to the existing supply agreement and takes the term through to 31 December 2030.
The award continues Western Energetics’ supply of technology and energetics to Aurenne Mt Ida Gold. It also builds on the company’s Mt Ida contract secured in March, which was valued at $20 million over three years. The new announcement does not specify the currency, revenue phasing, payment terms or expected margin attached to the extension.
Revenue Added Without New Capital Spending
Aquirian said no additional capital expenditure is required for the extension. That gives the contract a particularly straightforward financial shape on the information disclosed: the company gains a longer contracted supply position without announcing a new equipment or facility investment tied to the award.
Managing director Greg Patching described the longer-term agreement as improving revenue visibility and providing a platform to expand Aquirian’s technology-led business. Those are company statements rather than forecasts, and the announcement does not quantify the contract’s contribution to earnings or set out how it will alter the group’s existing contracted position.
Mt Ida’s Expanding Operating Base
Aurenne says the Mt Ida operation, which began in May 2023, has expanded its processing plant to 2.5 million tonnes a year. Following an 18-month exploration campaign, the company says the plant is fully committed for a mine life exceeding 10 years and is expected to produce more than 100,000 ounces of gold annually.
Those operating claims come from Aurenne and describe the setting for Aquirian’s extended supply relationship; they are not new production guidance from Aquirian. The next points of interest are how the extension is recognised through revenue, whether the Mt Ida operation maintains its stated production trajectory, and how the contract sits alongside Aquirian’s other recent partnerships.
Bottom Line?
The extension improves Aquirian’s contracted visibility without requiring fresh CAPEX, but its earnings significance will depend on revenue timing and margin, neither of which was disclosed.
Questions in the middle?
- How much of the approximately $21 million will be recognised in each financial year through 2030?
- What margin contribution will the extended Mt Ida supply agreement generate for Aquirian?
- Can Aquirian convert similar customer relationships into further long-duration contracts without materially increasing capital requirements?
