Critical Resources finds a third gold foothold beside Rosebel
Critical Resources has secured exclusivity to acquire 90% of a 29 km² Suriname exploration project just 4 km from Zijin’s producing Rosebel mine. The strategic land position expands the company’s prospective Suriname portfolio, but the project has no reported exploration results, resources or reserves.
- 90% exclusivity over 29 km² Gadu Manda project
- Approximately 4 km from Rosebel’s western open pits
- Suriname portfolio could reach 228 km² across three projects
- US$200,000 staged cash consideration plus 2.5 million shares
- Acquisition remains subject to due diligence and approvals

Third Suriname project sits beside Rosebel
Critical Resources Limited (ASX:CRR) has secured a 60-day exclusivity period, extendable by up to 30 days, to acquire a 90% interest in the Gadu Manda Gold Project in Suriname. The 29 km² granted exploration right lies approximately 4 km west of the western open pits at Zijin Mining’s Rosebel operation.
That proximity is the central attraction. Rosebel has produced more than 6 million ounces of gold since 2004, according to information cited in the announcement, and the district has established roads, mining activity and a local workforce. A Rosebel haul road serving the Saramacca satellite deposit also passes just south of Gadu Manda. None of that, however, establishes mineralisation on Critical Resources’ ground.
Portfolio expands to 228 km² of granted rights
Gadu Manda would become Critical Resources’ third Suriname gold project, following the Gonini and Greenstars projects secured under earlier exclusivity arrangements. Subject to all three acquisitions completing, the company would hold 90% interests across approximately 228 km² of granted gold rights: Gonini covers about 164 km², Greenstars about 35 km² and Gadu Manda about 29 km².
The project has some visible signs of prior activity. Small-scale miners have excavated pits, trenches and alluvial workings in the northern part of the permit, exposing quartz veining and weathered rock. The company cautions that no samples have been taken, quartz veining is not evidence of gold mineralisation, and information supplied by the vendor remains unverified. Critical Resources is seeking historical exploration data from the former Rosebel operator as part of its due diligence.
Low-cost entry, substantial conditions still outstanding
The proposed deal involves US$200,000 in cash over two years, including a US$10,000 exclusivity fee, 2.5 million CRR shares and a minimum US$200,000 exploration commitment within two years of completion. Critical Resources may withdraw at any time, while its proposed 90% interest can revert to the vendor if payments or the exploration commitment are not met and a default is not remedied.
Completion depends on legal, title and technical due diligence, confirmation that the exploration right is in good standing and capable of extension, approval from Suriname’s Minister of Natural Resources, shareholder and other regulatory approvals, and resolution of third-party mining activity on the permit. The right was granted in May 2025 and runs to May 2028. It does not itself permit commercial production.
Management is currently in Suriname conducting site visits and due diligence across the three projects, while structural targeting work is under way. The planned first steps at Gadu Manda are verification sampling of existing workings, stream-sediment, soil and regolith sampling, and the compilation of historical data. The next material evidence will therefore come not from Rosebel’s production history, but from whether Critical Resources can verify a coherent target on its own permit.
Bottom Line?
Gadu Manda gives Critical Resources a cheap option on a strategically located gold permit, but the investment case still depends on tenure clearance, transaction completion and first-party exploration results.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Minister of Natural Resources approve the proposed acquisition and can the exploration right be extended beyond May 2028?
- What will verification sampling and recovered Rosebel-era data show about mineralisation at Gadu Manda?
- Can Critical Resources manage three Suriname acquisitions and their exploration commitments alongside its existing lithium, base metals and technology programs?
