Brookside Energy is expanding beyond its operated SWISH program with five proposed non-operated horizontal wells across three Oklahoma plays. The estimated US$3.5 million investment is intended to add future production and cash flow without drawing on a new equity issue.
- Five proposed horizontal wells across the Southern SCOOP, Northern SCOOP and Cherokee plays
- Estimated Brookside investment of approximately US$3.5 million
- Working interests ranging from approximately 1% to 12%
- Cherokee drilling expected in Q4 2026, with Southern SCOOP activity targeted for Q2 2027
- Wells remain subject to approvals, final title and formal proposals
Five Proposed Wells Extend Brookside’s Development Pipeline
Brookside Energy Limited (ASX:BRK) is committing an estimated US$3.5 million to five proposed horizontal wells across Oklahoma’s Southern SCOOP, Northern SCOOP and Cherokee plays, widening its production pipeline beyond the company’s operated SWISH base.
The investments are non-operated, with estimated working interests ranging from about 1% to 12%. Brookside says the program will be funded from existing working capital and operating cash flow, alongside the company’s recently completed acquisition of Lone Star’s US oil and gas interests, which added established production without issuing new equity. That acquisition was detailed in the Lone Star interests acquisition.
Southern SCOOP Wells Await Regulatory Progress
Two of the proposed wells sit within Brookside’s 1,920-acre drilling spacing unit in the Southern SCOOP and are designed to target the Woodford and Sycamore formations. Regulatory applications have been filed for the extended-length horizontals, where Brookside’s estimated working interests range from approximately 7% to 12%.
The company is targeting operations from the second quarter of 2027, but the wells remain subject to the regulatory process, final title and formal well proposals. Brookside points to an existing Woodford horizontal in the unit that produced about 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent gross in its first 12 months and approximately 1.0 million BOE gross cumulatively to July 2026. Those figures relate to the earlier well and do not constitute production forecasts for the new proposals.
Northern SCOOP and Cherokee Add Nearer-Term Activity
Brookside has also secured an estimated 1% working interest in a proposed three-mile Woodford horizontal in the Northern SCOOP. In the Cherokee play, it has acquired approximately 1% interests in two proposed wells, one planned as a three-mile horizontal and the other as a two-mile horizontal, with drilling expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The small interests limit Brookside’s share of both the capital burden and any eventual production from these wells. They also mean the announcement provides no well-level production, reserve or completion forecasts, leaving the financial contribution of the program dependent on drilling outcomes, final costs and the timing of first production.
Capital Discipline Tested by Execution
Managing Director and CEO David Prentice said the operated portfolio remains the foundation of Brookside’s business, while non-operated investments provide additional exposure to development across the Anadarko Basin without taking resources away from the operated program.
For shareholders, the attraction is clear but still prospective: five wells offer several potential additions to production and cash flow for a stated capital commitment of US$3.5 million. The next hard evidence will come from regulatory progress on the Southern SCOOP wells, confirmation of final interests and costs, and whether the Cherokee drilling schedule converts the proposals into producing assets.
Bottom Line?
Brookside has added scale to its drilling pipeline at a relatively modest stated capital commitment, but none of the five wells is yet producing and the announcement supplies no production forecasts.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Southern SCOOP applications secure approvals and retain the stated 7% to 12% working interests?
- Do the Cherokee wells commence drilling in Q4 2026 as planned?
- What production, reserves and cash-flow contribution will the five wells ultimately deliver relative to the US$3.5 million investment?
