Gold Hydrogen unlocks $2 million for helium and hydrogen commercialisation work

Gold Hydrogen has secured up to $2 million against its verified FY2026 R&D claim and can seek a further $4 million against FY2027 expenditure. The funding gives the explorer near-term support for well-testing analysis and commercialisation studies, but carries a 16.5% annual interest rate and security over its R&D claims.

  • $2 million FY2026 R&D loan expected to settle shortly
  • Optional further funding of up to $4 million for FY2027
  • 16.5% annual interest, 1.75% establishment fee and 120-day minimum interest period
  • Funding earmarked for well-testing analysis and Natural Hydrogen and Helium studies

$2 Million Loan Secured Against FY2026 R&D Claim

Gold Hydrogen Limited (ASX:GHY) has secured a $2 million R&D loan from Rockford Capital, giving the Natural Hydrogen and Helium explorer near-term funding against a FY2026 claim verified by Deloitte. The company said the proceeds are expected to be settled and received in the coming days.

The facility is secured against Gold Hydrogen’s projected FY2026 R&D claim and carries a 1.75% establishment fee, interest of 16.5% per annum and a minimum 120-day interest period. Those terms make the funding materially more expensive than conventional corporate debt, although the announcement does not disclose the expected dollar repayment on the initial facility.

Optional $4 Million Facility Tied to 2026 Well Testing

The company can also elect to seek up to a further $4 million against its projected FY2027 R&D claim. That potential borrowing would cover the 2026 well-testing campaign and other eligible R&D costs, on terms matching the FY2026 facility, with repayment required by 30 April 2028. The additional funding has not been drawn or confirmed as committed.

The financing arrives as Gold Hydrogen processes the results of its latest testing campaign. The company recently completed Ramsay helium flow testing, with helium flowing to surface across three wells, and said the new facility will support further analysis alongside preliminary studies of potential commercialisation pathways for both Helium and Natural Hydrogen.

Funding Supports Commercialisation Studies, Not Production

Gold Hydrogen said the funding will allow it to continue compiling and analysing testing results and pursue early commercialisation work on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The announcement does not establish a production decision, revenue stream or completed R&D reimbursement; the funding remains tied to claims and future repayment obligations.

For shareholders, the immediate question is whether the company’s technical work can progress quickly enough to justify borrowing against future R&D claims. The FY2027 option offers additional financial capacity, but its cost, security arrangements and reliance on a projected claim leave the next drawdown dependent on both the company’s election and the underlying R&D outcome.

Bottom Line?

The loan extends Gold Hydrogen’s runway for testing and commercialisation studies, but the next milestone is confirmation of the FY2026 receipt and whether the optional FY2027 debt is actually taken up.

Questions in the middle?

  • When will Gold Hydrogen confirm receipt and drawdown of the initial $2 million facility?
  • Will the company elect to draw the additional $4 million against FY2027 R&D expenditure?
  • What technical and commercial conclusions will emerge from the well-testing analysis funded by the facility?
