MaxiPARTS gains FY27 momentum with 26.5% first-quarter profit growth

Automotive Parts Distribution By Victor Sage 3 min read

MaxiPARTS has delivered a sharp lift in first-quarter operating profit despite modest revenue growth, while its newly acquired Air Brake Systems business is set to contribute for most of FY27. The company has reiterated expectations for further earnings improvement and increased capital returns.

  • Q1 FY27 revenue rose 2.6% to $72.8 million
  • Operating NPBT increased 26.5% to $4.2 million
  • Japanese parts and Förch Australia recorded double-digit growth
  • Air Brake Systems will contribute for eight months of FY27
  • Company reiterated FY27 growth and increased capital returns

Profit growth outpaces revenue in the first quarter

MaxiPARTS Limited (ASX:MXI) has started FY27 with operating net profit before tax up 26.5% to $4.2 million, considerably ahead of its 2.6% revenue growth to $72.8 million. The figures come from unaudited management accounts for the three months ended 30 September 2026.

The result suggests the quarter’s main story was conversion rather than top-line acceleration. MaxiPARTS attributed the improvement to supply chain optimisation, cost control, pricing discipline, lower interest costs and better working capital management, rather than to a single new contract or market surge.

Higher-margin businesses support earnings mix

The Kalgoorlie store in Western Australia also helped, with the company noting that its year-on-year earnings growth partly reflects the store’s start-up phase in the prior corresponding period. Meanwhile, the higher-margin Japanese parts program and Förch Australia business both continued to deliver double-digit growth.

That mix matters because it gives the profit result more support than revenue growth alone would imply, although the filing does not quantify the contribution from each driver. MaxiPARTS had previously raised its FY26 operating profit guidance amid cost control and inventory improvements, making this latest update another indication that operating discipline remains central to the group’s earnings trajectory.

Air Brake Systems brings an acquisition contribution

FY27 will also include eight months of contribution from the Air Brake Systems acquisition, completed earlier this month in a transaction valued at $11.2 million. MaxiPARTS said additional profit synergies are expected in FY28 and FY29, but it did not quantify the contribution expected during the current financial year.

The company reiterated expectations for further FY27 growth and financial improvement, alongside increased capital returns and continued exploration of organic and inorganic growth opportunities. Those ambitions raise the bar for the next quarterly update: the key test will be whether the underlying businesses can maintain their current margin momentum while the newly acquired braking operation is integrated.

Bottom Line?

The first quarter has put MaxiPARTS on a firmer FY27 footing, but the next updates will need to show how much of the profit lift is repeatable and how quickly Air Brake Systems delivers against expectations.

Questions in the middle?

  • Can Japanese parts and Förch Australia sustain double-digit growth through the rest of FY27?
  • How much profit will Air Brake Systems contribute before its FY28 and FY29 synergies emerge?
  • What form and scale will the promised increase in capital returns take?
