US$41.8m Cash and 19,000m Drilling Shape BMC’s September Quarter
BMC Minerals has reported high-grade polymetallic drilling near its proposed Yukon mine, alongside a US$8.6 million quarterly operating cash outflow and five quarters of funding at current spending rates. The company also detailed the secured Wheaton financing arrangement that underpins part of the KZK project’s funding position.
- Three high-grade Rhyolite Peak intercepts carrying silver, zinc, gold, copper and lead
- Nine of 15 reported holes returned significant mineralised intervals
- US$41.8 million cash balance after US$8.6 million quarterly operating outflow
- Five quarters of funding based on current outgoings, with no unused facilities
- Type B Water Licence and exploration approvals secured, but major permits remain outstanding

Rhyolite Peak Drilling Extends High-Grade Mineralisation
BMC Minerals Ltd (ASX:BMC) has paired its latest high-grade Yukon drilling results with a clear reminder of the capital demands ahead: the company ended September with US$41.8 million in cash after spending US$8.6 million on operating activities during the quarter. The exploration news is encouraging, but the balance sheet remains tied to a development program that is still years from a targeted final investment decision.
At Rhyolite Peak, about 1,200 metres west of and along strike from the proposed ABM Mine, all nine holes reported after quarter-end returned significant mineralised intervals. The standout results included 7.4 metres at 179 grams per tonne silver, 6.9% zinc, 1.1 grams per tonne gold, 0.6% copper and 1.2% lead; 5.2 metres at 233 grams per tonne silver, 9.0% zinc, 1.7 grams per tonne gold, 0.4% copper and 2.6% lead; and 4.0 metres at 264 grams per tonne silver, 9.0% zinc, 2.9 grams per tonne gold, 0.6% copper and 4.3% lead. The mineralisation remains open along strike and down dip. The results build on the Rhyolite Peak drilling results previously reported by the company, when nine holes had all returned significant mineralisation.
Nearly 19,000 Metres Completed Across KZK
BMC completed 15 Rhyolite Peak holes to target depth during the quarter and had finished roughly 19,000 metres of its planned 20,000-metre 2026 drilling program by the report date. Drilling also continued at the GP4F, Fuego, Krakatoa and ABM areas, with results from the remaining six Rhyolite Peak holes expected by the end of October.
The exploration push is supported by a 2,482 line-kilometre drone magnetic survey, ground gravity coverage, downhole electromagnetic work and structural mapping. BMC says the expanded dataset is intended to refine the next generation of drill targets across the 372-square-kilometre Kudz Ze Kayah property. That is potentially important because Rhyolite Peak sits close to proposed mine infrastructure, although the filing does not provide a revised resource or reserve estimate from the new drilling.
Permitting Advances While Key Approvals Remain
BMC received a 25-year Type B Water Licence and a five-year Class 3 Quartz Mining Land Use Approval during the quarter, following the positive Mine Decision Document received in April. It also received Class 1 exploration permits for its Pelly and Kona properties, allowing exploration there through 2027. The permitting milestone extends the progress described in the company’s ABM permitting milestone, but it is not the final regulatory clearance for mine construction.
The Type A Water Licence, Quartz Mining Licence, federal Fisheries Act Authorization, land leases and other environmental permits are still being progressed. Engineering work continued on tailings, waste rock and water-management facilities, while metallurgical test work focused on samples representing the first two production years. Further test work is planned before the plant flowsheet is finalised and final engineering design begins.
US$41.8m Cash and Wheaton Funding Structure
Cash fell from US$50.3 million at June 30 to US$41.8 million at September 30, with the main drain coming from US$7.2 million of exploration and evaluation spending, US$919,000 in staff costs and US$791,000 in administration and corporate costs. On the quarter’s relevant outgoings, BMC calculates approximately five quarters of funding and reported no unused financing facilities.
The cash-flow report also records US$47.5 million drawn under a Precious Metals Financing Arrangement with Wheaton Precious Metals. Under the arrangement, BMC has committed to deliver 7.375% of refined gold and silver production from KZK, reducing after certain delivery volumes are met, in exchange for ongoing payments equal to 20% of LBMA market prices. A further US$15 million is due after receipt of certain licences, while the arrangement is secured over company assets and the KZK property. The immediate question is not simply whether Rhyolite Peak adds ounces and tonnes to the geological story, but how much of the remaining permitting and engineering runway can be funded before the next major capital decision targeted for late 2027.
Bottom Line?
Rhyolite Peak is strengthening the geological case close to ABM infrastructure, but the next funding and permitting milestones will determine how far that case can progress.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the six outstanding Rhyolite Peak assays materially expand the resource base or mine-life opportunity?
- When will BMC receive the remaining major approvals, including the Type A Water Licence and Quartz Mining Licence?
- How will the company fund development beyond the reported five quarters of cash runway, including the obligations attached to the Wheaton arrangement?
