Completed room nights accelerate ahead of expectations
Serko Limited (NZX/ASX:SKO) has signalled a modest upgrade to its FY27 income outlook after first-half trading came in stronger than anticipated, led by an acceleration in completed room nights.
The company said it expects the momentum to continue through the second half, with underlying growth continuing on a seasonally adjusted basis. Serko currently guides to total income of $128 million to $134 million for FY27, but expects to revise that range upwards when it reports its first-half results on 16 November.
Cash flow expected to turn positive
The update carries a second favourable signal: Serko expects to report positive free cash flow for the six months to 30 September 2026 and for the full FY27 financial year. Free cash flow is a non-GAAP measure under Serko's definition, excluding cash movements involving short-term investments, capital raisings and strategic acquisition payments.
Total spend is projected to land towards the middle of the existing $132 million to $140 million range. That measure includes operating expenses and capitalised development costs, but excludes depreciation and amortisation, so the income upgrade is not being accompanied by an equivalent increase in the spending outlook in this preliminary update.
Core business now carries the FY27 outlook
Serko's earlier FY27 guidance had been framed partly around the timing of booking volumes from a strategic initiative targeting defined US corporate segments. The company now says that initiative remains in its early stages and is not expected to contribute meaningfully to FY27 total income, leaving the core business as the primary expected driver of growth.
That distinction matters because the improvement signalled today is not being attributed to the new US initiative. Serko's US strategy has also included the US AI beta launch, but the latest release gives no additional detail on how that programme is progressing or when it might contribute financially.
November results will test the early signal
The 16 November results will provide the numbers behind today's brief announcement: the revised income range, confirmed free cash flow, detailed completed-room-night performance and an update on the US strategic initiatives. Until then, the size of the guidance change remains undisclosed, and the release does not quantify the first-half growth rate.
Bottom Line?
The positive signal is clear, but its value will depend on the size of the income upgrade and whether completed room-night momentum converts into sustained cash generation on 16 November.
Questions in the middle?
- How much will Serko lift the $128m-$134m FY27 income guidance range?
- What completed room-night growth rate underpinned the stronger first-half performance?
- When could the US corporate initiative begin contributing meaningfully to total income?
