$6 Million Raise Targets Production Scale-Up
Aurora Labs Limited (ASX:A3D) has raised $6 million to expand manufacturing of its proprietary turbojet propulsion systems, signalling a shift from proving the technology to building the capacity needed for larger commercial orders. The two-tranche placement will issue approximately 109.1 million shares at 5.5 cents each, a discount of 6.77% to Aurora’s last trading price of 5.9 cents on 23 October.
The new shares represent about 20.8% of the company’s current shares on issue, making the funding meaningful but materially dilutive for existing holders. The first tranche, worth $4.565 million, is expected to settle on 2 November, with allotment scheduled for 4 November. The remaining $1.435 million depends on shareholder approval at a general meeting expected in mid-January 2027.
Walkinshaw Investment Opens Manufacturing Discussions
The placement includes a $550,000 commitment from chairman David Trimboli, subject to shareholder approval, and a significant strategic investment from Walkinshaw Group Holdings. Aurora said the investment creates a pathway for discussions about future production support, drawing on Walkinshaw’s experience in engineering, contract manufacturing and manufacturing scale-up.
That distinction matters: the announcement describes potential future discussions rather than a binding production agreement. Aurora also said the relationship could run in both directions, with the company potentially supporting Walkinshaw’s metal additive manufacturing activities through its own expertise.
AU4 Deliveries Feed Commercialisation Push
The funding follows first AU4 commercial deliveries, Aurora’s achievement of AS9100D aerospace quality certification, a $1 million Defence Industry Development Grant and a strategic Teaming Agreement with MBDA. The company has also secured its maiden US propulsion system order, which Aurora described as its initial commercial entry into the US aerospace and defence market.
Proceeds will be directed towards expanding production lines, acquiring commercial off-the-shelf metal additive manufacturing equipment, finalising production data packs and adding scalable systems, processes and personnel. Aurora also plans to spend on business development, intellectual property protection, quality certification, compliance and general working capital.
Dilution and Execution Risks Remain
Aurora is positioning its AS9100D-certified Western Australian facility as a vertically integrated manufacturing platform for Australian and international defence customers. The stated objective is to move towards full-rate production, but the raise itself does not guarantee additional contracts, production volumes or commercial growth.
Brokers involved in the placement will receive 7.5 million options, exercisable at 12 cents for three years, alongside $213,000 in cash fees. The immediate tests are whether Tranche 1 converts into expanded production capacity, whether shareholders approve the second tranche, and whether Walkinshaw discussions produce a definitive manufacturing arrangement rather than remaining a strategic possibility.
Bottom Line?
Aurora now has fresh capital to pursue higher-volume propulsion manufacturing, but shareholders must weigh the 20.8% issuance and execution risk against the company’s early customer and defence pipeline.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the expanded equipment and production infrastructure translate into materially higher AU4 deliveries?
- Will shareholders approve the additional $1.435 million tranche in January 2027?
- Can discussions with Walkinshaw develop into a binding production-support or commercial agreement?
