Clever Culture Systems has fully invoiced three APAS Independence sales in the first quarter of FY27 and expects customer commitments to lift first-half sales and evaluations to eight instruments. A new paid evaluation with a Top-20 pharmaceutical company could expand its base of major drugmakers to nine, although several milestones remain prospective.
- Three APAS Independence instruments fully invoiced in Q1 FY27
- New Top-20 pharmaceutical customer expected to begin paid evaluation
- Two existing global pharmaceutical customers nearing purchase orders
- PSC Biotech channel adds reach into regional and single-site manufacturers
- H1 FY27 sales and evaluations expected to reach eight units
Three APAS Sales Invoiced in Q1
Clever Culture Systems Ltd (ASX:CC5) has started FY27 with three APAS Independence instruments sold and fully invoiced to existing pharmaceutical customers Novo and AstraZeneca. The result gives the Adelaide-based AI microbiology company a firmer commercial base as it pursues wider deployment of its automated culture-plate reading system.
The company said its first-half FY27 sales and new evaluations are expected to reach eight units, matching the eight instruments sold to pharmaceutical customers across the whole of FY26. That figure combines completed sales with evaluations, so it is not a like-for-like revenue target. Still, it points to a faster pace of customer activity if the announced expectations materialise.
Nine Major Pharmaceutical Companies in the Pipeline
CCS expects to finalise a paid evaluation with a new Top-20 global pharmaceutical company in the second quarter of FY27. If completed, the evaluation would take the number of pharmaceutical companies that have purchased, begun paid evaluations or are actively evaluating APAS Independence to nine.
The company’s sales model is built around placing an instrument, validating it at a customer and then seeking adoption across additional manufacturing sites. A recent Novo follow-up order had already pointed to expansion potential with an existing customer, but the current announcement does not disclose the value or timing of any possible multi-site rollouts.
Two Evaluations Near Purchase Orders
Two existing global pharmaceutical customers are in final procurement discussions as they complete their APAS evaluations. CCS expects purchase orders in Q2 FY27, with invoicing also expected during that quarter. A separate single-site pharmaceutical manufacturer is nearing a purchase commitment, with installation and qualification planned before the end of calendar 2026.
That single-site opportunity originated at an APAS discovery day hosted by AstraZeneca in June. It illustrates how customer demonstrations are feeding the sales funnel, while customer presentations from AstraZeneca and CSL have been used to promote APAS’s claims around faster payback, reduced manual handling and centrally managed validation. Those customer insights are supportive of the sales proposition, but they do not guarantee adoption by other manufacturers.
PSC Biotech Adds a Second Commercial Route
The recently announced PSC Biotech partnership adds another route to market, including a commitment to purchase an instrument and access to regional and single-site pharmaceutical manufacturers. The arrangement builds on the PSC Biotech sales channel, which was described as targeting pharmaceutical manufacturers across the US, Canada and Singapore.
CCS chief executive and managing director Brent Barnes said the company’s focus was converting evaluations into purchases and supporting deployment across customers’ manufacturing networks, while building recurring software revenue. The announcement provides no contract values, unit pricing or confirmed revenue contribution for the expected transactions, leaving conversion and timing as the key near-term tests.
Bottom Line?
The commercial signal is strengthening, but the next proof point is execution: Q2 purchase orders, the new paid evaluation and evidence that single-site placements can expand into recurring multi-site revenue.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the two customers completing evaluations issue purchase orders and be invoiced in Q2 FY27 as expected?
- Can the new Top-20 pharmaceutical evaluation progress from a paid trial to wider deployment?
- How quickly will the PSC Biotech channel generate instrument sales and recurring software revenue?
