Funds Management By Victor Sage 3 min read

Perennial Better Future Active ETF investors are set to receive a final 13.14 cents per unit distribution and an estimated 386.77 cents redemption payment as the fund winds up. Remaining units will be cancelled once the process is complete.

  • 13.14 cents per unit final income distribution on 28 October
  • Estimated 386.77 cents per unit final redemption payment on 30 October
  • Total announced payments of 399.91 cents per unit
  • Remaining units to be cancelled after the winding-up process
  • Final redemption amount may change before payment

IMPQ investors face final payment before closure

Perennial Investment Management Limited has put a figure on the final cash return from the Perennial Better Future Active ETF (ASX:IMPQ), with unitholders due to receive 399.91 cents per unit across two payments. The first, a final income distribution of 13.14 cents per unit, is scheduled for 28 October 2026, followed by an estimated final redemption payment of 386.77 cents per unit on 30 October.

The payments mark the practical end of the fund rather than a new phase for the listed vehicle. The distribution represents income earned by the fund, while the redemption amount is the net proceeds from realising its assets after that income distribution. The final redemption figure remains an estimate and may change before payment.

Winding-up follows losses and shrinking scale

The final figures arrive after the fund's voluntary wind-up, a process covered in the August wind-up decision, was approved on 11 August. That earlier announcement reported a comprehensive loss of $2.601 million, $15.375 million in redemptions during the financial year and net assets of $26.197 million. The Responsible Entity said the fund was unlikely to achieve the scale needed to operate economically.

Once the final payments have been made and the winding-up is complete, any units still on issue will be cancelled. That means the payment timetable is also the last material event for IMPQ unitholders as holders of the ETF, subject to the redemption amount being finalised.

Tax reporting remains outstanding

An annual tax statement will be issued after the end of the financial year, providing the final tax components needed for investors' returns. The announcement does not disclose the total value of the payments across all units, so the per-unit figures cannot be used to calculate the fund-wide cash distribution without the number of units on issue.

The immediate point of uncertainty is narrow but important: 386.77 cents per unit is not guaranteed until the final redemption payment is made. After that, the remaining question is how quickly the fund completes cancellation of residual units and delivers the final tax information to former investors.

Bottom Line?

The closure is now largely a cash-settlement exercise, but the 386.77 cents per unit redemption figure remains provisional until payment.

Questions in the middle?

  • How much, if at all, will the estimated 386.77 cents per unit redemption payment change before 30 October?
  • When will the fund confirm that all remaining units have been cancelled?
  • Will the final tax statement contain material income or capital components that differ from investors' expectations?
