Yandal’s Arrakis drilling opens a deeper high-grade gold frontier

Yandal Resources has extended its high-grade Arrakis discovery with a 20-metre intercept at 8.7g/t gold, including 3 metres at 52.8g/t. The exploration momentum comes with a pressing funding requirement, as the company ended September with $3.29 million in cash and plans an equity raising during the December quarter.

  • 20m at 8.7g/t gold from 84m at Arrakis, including 3m at 52.8g/t
  • Domain C extended approximately 80m down-plunge and remains open at depth
  • 3,300m diamond drilling program nearing completion, with further assays due in November
  • $3.29m cash at quarter end equates to 0.52 quarters of funding at the reported cash-use rate
  • Equity capital raising planned during the December quarter

Arrakis delivers Yandal’s strongest IWB intercept

Yandal Resources Limited (ASX:YRL) has put another high-grade marker into its Arrakis discovery, reporting 20 metres at 8.7g/t gold from 84 metres, including 3 metres at 52.8g/t. The company says the result from hole 26IWBRC0120 is the highest-grade intercept recorded across its 100%-owned Ironstone Well-Barwidgee Gold Project.

The intercept sits within a newly defined high-grade zone called Domain C, alongside results of 24.2 metres at 1.4g/t from 237.8 metres and 17.5 metres at 2.3g/t from 127.5 metres. Yandal says Domain C is interpreted to plunge about 45 degrees southwest and remains open at depth. The result builds on the record Arrakis gold intercept, which had previously identified the 3-metre, 52.8g/t interval as the project’s highest-grade hit.

Deep drilling tests whether Domain C can grow

Yandal has nearly completed a seven-hole, 3,300-metre diamond program designed to test the width, grade and scale of Arrakis mineralisation at depth. Six holes had been completed by the report date, with priority assays from two holes received after the quarter ended, including 56.6 metres at 1.1g/t from 398.5 metres and a separate 20.5-metre interval at 1.0g/t.

The company says one hole remained underway and further priority assays are expected from early November. Earlier drilling had already extended Domain C about 80 metres down-plunge to an approximate vertical depth of 200 metres, where the trend remains untested. As with all exploration results, the intercepts indicate geological potential but have not yet been converted into a Mineral Resource Estimate; the company also notes that closer-spaced drilling is needed to verify continuity and geometry.

Anders adds a parallel target, while other results are mixed

At Anders, about 900 metres from Arrakis, first-pass RC drilling returned 6 metres at 2.5g/t gold from 52 metres, including 4 metres at 3.5g/t. Yandal says the result confirms primary fresh-rock mineralisation associated with a deformed and altered porphyry, and plans follow-up air-core drilling to assess the target’s scale.

Flushing Meadows drilling continued below the existing 268,000-ounce resource, with results including 3.5 metres at 4.1g/t and 4.8 metres at 2.3g/t. However, follow-up drilling indicated that a shallow 20-metre intercept previously reported at the deposit was limited in dip extent and likely secondary in nature. At Siona, shallow mineralisation also remains difficult to classify, with Yandal saying broader results suggest the sub-horizontal mineralisation is secondary. Assays from two further Siona holes and the broad Flushing Meadows and Giedi Prime air-core program are expected in November.

Exploration momentum meets a short cash runway

The quarter’s exploration push cost $5.965 million, leaving Yandal with $3.29 million in cash at 30 September, down from $9.664 million three months earlier. On the ASX cash-flow template, that balance represented an estimated 0.52 quarters of funding based on relevant quarterly outgoings of $6.346 million.

Yandal says exploration expenditure is forecast to reduce over the next two quarters as recent drilling programs finish, but it also disclosed that it plans to undertake an equity capital raising during the December quarter. The company said it was confident sufficient funds could be raised to support planned operations. That funding plan now sits alongside the next Arrakis assay batch, making November a potentially important month for both geological and corporate reasons.

The board renewal completed during the quarter saw Eduard Eshuys become non-executive chair and Andrew Jackson join as a non-executive director. Chris Oorschot remains chief executive officer on an interim basis until his planned departure on 30 November, while the company continues to pursue drilling across Arrakis, Anders, Siona and the wider Ironstone Well-Barwidgee tenure.

Bottom Line?

Arrakis is producing the headline grades, but the next test is whether November assays establish enough continuity to justify resource work before the planned capital raising reshapes the register.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the remaining Arrakis diamond holes show that Domain C’s grade and width persist at depth?
  • What terms, pricing and dilution will accompany Yandal’s planned December-quarter equity raising?
  • Can the Anders, Flushing Meadows and Siona results separate durable primary mineralisation from shallow or secondary gold?
